My DH keeps shooting down all my name suggestions, are they really that bad?

We may be expecting a child soon, so we have been stewing upon possible names. My recommendations have been Campbell if it's a girl (Not exactly as tribute to our insignificantly small Scottish heritage, more-so because I just really like the sound of it!) and Renn if it's a boy. Are these bad? I've thrown around the idea of Casimir, or Cassidy, but none of them seem to stick with him, is this a me issue?

Yes. Really bad. All of them.

NuffSaidSam · 12/03/2025 00:30

They're not to my taste.

What names does he like?

Perhaps we can suggest some that would work for both of you.

WetBandits · 12/03/2025 00:31

Campbell? Are you expecting a child or a tin of soup?

HeddaGarbled · 12/03/2025 00:32

Yeah, they’re daft.

Why would you call a girl Campbell?

They are really bad names.

OlderGlaswegianLivingInDevon · 12/03/2025 00:33

Never knew Campbell was a girl's name, it's a Scottish second name surely
and renn ? as in wren ?
Rennie maybe.
Cassidy was also a second name when I was growing up.

What is wrong with
Shona
Isla
Iona
Isabel
Fiona
Andrew
Alastair
Douglas
Grant

OlderGlaswegianLivingInDevon · 12/03/2025 00:35

actually, the first reply nailed it
and I was wasting time replying

just remember this baby grows into a child which grows into an adult - whom will be changing their name by deed pole when legally permitted too...

MirandaBlu · 12/03/2025 00:36

What are his suggestions? If we look at the names you love ad have suggested and those he loves and has suggested together, people here might be able to suggest some mutually appealing names.

The two of you re the ONLY two people who have to agree on a name, but you do have to agree on one.

Well, my DH actually liked Renn a lot, I originally suggested it as sort of an homage to him getting his dream job (Being a part of a German race team, they call Motorsport "Rennsport" over there)

He really liked more "classical" names like Elizabeth or Claire, they were a wee bit too tame for my taste though, Campbell is a distant family member's last name, and I suggested that as a more "classic" alternative.

first you talk about minor Scottish heritage then you go on about German racing team...

Renn would be acceptable as a middle name imo, Campbell for a girl would be cruel.

There's nothing classic about giving a girl a surname as a firstname

OlderGlaswegianLivingInDevon · 12/03/2025 00:41

Elizabeth is perfect !
can't go far wrong with that.

It's an American thing isn't it? Not a style I find endering at all.

Renamed · 12/03/2025 00:42

Elspeth Wren

sounds okay

WellsAndThistles · 12/03/2025 00:43

All of them are awful sorry! Don't name your daughter after condensed soup 😂!

So many lovely Scottish names to pick from...

As someone from a small Scottish village we had one family a couple of streets over where that wasn't the case 😂.

DottieMoon · 12/03/2025 00:46

Awful!

I like this.

not keen on Campbell. I think Wren could be nice for a boy or girl (prefer Wren to Renn)

merrymelodies · 12/03/2025 00:50

Maybe it's a hormonal thing? When I was expecting my DC, I came up with all sorts of unlikely names... Auberon was one.
