Which of these names is your favourite? What type of person do you associate them with?

The middle name will be Francis after a family member.

They both have a Welsh vibe. I prefer Evan, and think it is a really versatile name. An Evan could be a sophisticated professional, a sportsman, a man down the pub or a jack the lad, so it does not typecast your DS before he grows into who he is.

Evan - love this name - nice traditional but cool sounding and not too commonly used. Owen is good too, I just slightly prefer Evan.

Evan, my youngest was nearly Evan but we went for Eben in the end. I'm not sure what it is about own I don't like, I think because when I hear the name I picture Sid Owen! Whereas with Evan I think if Evan Dando who was a bit of a heart throb!

BoleynMemories13 · 07/03/2025 19:45

I much prefer Evan.

As a non native Brit I don’t know how to pronounce Evan. Owen reminds me of Owen Jones

My DS is Evan, I have always loved it. I teach and I have only taught one Evan in 20 years of teaching.

DS was almost an Evan. I think it's quite a gentle name.

I have an Evan too 🥰 perfect, friendly name to suit all ages and all types of people. Love it so much.

He had another Evan in a club once (mum was American, I feel like it’s a pretty American choice (as well as Welsh, but they love their Celtic choices in the states too don’t they), and there’s an Evan in the other end of the school too. My kids like it when they meet others with their names but it would also get old if it was alllll the time, so Evan really hits that sweet spot IMO.

Never figured out why, but Owen and Ewan are an entirely different vibe to Evan, in my mind!

One thing I will say about Evan is that he is surrounded by Ethans, Euans, Evies, Eddies etc etc etc. Also a couple of Evanders locally!

My DS is also an Evan and I love it. It's a nice versatile name and will grow with him. It's not an overly common name either.
