Which of these names is your favourite? What type of person do you associate them with?

The middle name will be Francis after a family member.

Thanks for the the replies. I love both names but probably leaning towards Evan.

I like both but I'd probably go Evan

My DS is Evan, I have always loved it. I teach and I have only taught one Evan in 20 years of teaching.

Wondering if I know you... 🤣

My PM says disabled, we may never know!

BananaSpanner · 07/03/2025 20:25

Evan. Bit cooler.

NefiBlw · 07/03/2025 20:58

Evan because I know many with the surname Owen.

Both are nice and with good meanings, but I'd use Ifan or Owain, as I am Welsh.

KayEmAy · 07/03/2025 21:00

Evan is my favorite but you can't choose wrong :)

verycloakanddaggers · 07/03/2025 21:01

Evan.

sassyduck · 07/03/2025 21:02

Evan. Both nice names though.

BootballJoy · 07/03/2025 21:04

I always think of those two names as very similar, almost a pair. Could easily be a sibling set. I prefer the sound of Evan but both are nice.

Evan definitely (used to fancy Evan Dando)

Lavenderandbrown · 07/03/2025 23:40

Owen “young warrior”. I have an Owen who is 23. I chose the name when I was in college after reading John Irving’s …a prayer for Owen Meany. I don’t find it trendy or popular now or then. A few here or there but usually he was the only one. Owen is a fine name for a fine son.

ItalianChineseIndianMexican · 07/03/2025 23:41

Owen

Nevertrustacop · 07/03/2025 23:43

Owen though Evan is also good.

I think of the old clothes shop Evan’s Outsize. Sorry.

Lovely name. I think the two names have similar origins because "young warrior" is also a meaning for Evan. Although I personally prefer the "God is gracious" meaning.

Evan Francis
John Francis
Owen Francis

All handsome names.

Changeissmall · 08/03/2025 09:49

Both were on my shortlist. Slightly prefer Owen as a more classic name.
Disagree with Owen being more ‘faddy’. Evan is trendier.
You will have people asking if you’re Welsh. If you are then Ifan or Efan are good.

I'm Irish and Evan is quite popular here. I know its seen as a traditionally Welsh name but it is also the anglicised version of the Irish saint Eimhin. Eoghan & Eoin are the more common spellings of Owen here but I do prefer the Owen spelling. I would not consider either name "trendy".

Oo, prefer John if it's in the mix.

I've seen Evan as a woman's name in America.

I've seen James as a woman's name in America too and that's my older sons name.

Definitely Evan. I don’t like that spelling of Owen. Here it’s nearly always Eoin or Eoghan.

shoopshoopdedoo · 08/03/2025 14:24

Owen. I’m not a big fan of Evan

Bournetilly · 08/03/2025 14:25

Evan is a great name. I don’t like Owen.
