Do you like it? Probably will be called Nick most of the time. I have had a few comments that it’s “dated” so wanted some impartial views.

I love the name so much, it’s always been my favourite boys name.

I love it and have also been wondering why it hasn't made a come back. A gorgeous classic.

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 27/02/2025 21:46

Yep love it

bellocchild · 27/02/2025 21:47

Lovely - go for it!

Umbrellah · 27/02/2025 21:47

Thanks all. Had some comments that it’s too 1970s/1980s so I had a bit of a wobble. Hormones!

I think it’s really really dated. I would assume was a 55 year old bloke. Nick, Kev, Gary, Rob, Paul, Andy, Steve, Mark.

Not an awful name at all, but really dated.

That’s very similar to some comments in real life! Thank you.

To add I also like Rob, Andy, Steve and Mark from your examples 😂😂 but couldn’t go with them because too many people I know with those names!

Not my favourite, don't love the sound, but there's nothing at all wrong with it as a name. I quite like the idea of using a more dated name, although my favourites of that era would probably be Philip and Timothy.

I like Nico as a shortening.

Notgivenuphope · 27/02/2025 21:53

Love it!

Oh personally I really do not like Nico, just Nick or Nicholas. Do you think people may shorten Nicholas to Nico?! I never thought of that!

I actually don’t mind any of those names (with the exception of Kev) and would happily date a Nick, Mark or Steve. But they just remind me of men of a certain age. I’d struggle to think of a 5 year old lad called Nick. When my DS was in nursery last year he was friends with a Jack, an Oliver, a Finley, a Harry, a Theo and a…(wait for it) Dave.

KenIsAnAccessory · 27/02/2025 21:56

Nice. Classic in my opinion.

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 27/02/2025 21:59

I think Nick sounds dated but I like Nicolas in full. I think it is more likely to be shortened to Nico than Nick given that Nico is more popular/trendy for babies at the moment.

SwedishEdith · 27/02/2025 21:59

Little kids are Nicky - it's cute. Nick is a good solid name. I think his mates might use Nico as a nickname but I don't think it's inevitable or what everyone else will use.

Hmm. I always assumed Nico was a separate name! Something to think about.

I know two - one ages 55, one 29.

i neither love nor hate it, it’s a little bland but utterly inoffensive.

Do you all think it sounds quite international or works well abroad too? For the future.

I have a little baby Nick! Well… he’s 3

TartanHare · 27/02/2025 22:04

As Nursery Nurse of 30 years, I really like it. I've never taught a little one. It's well known but unusual at the same time, easy to spell and he won't be one of 3 in the class.

Waterlilysunset · 27/02/2025 22:05

I like it

weebarra · 27/02/2025 22:06

Love it. One of my favourite 11 year olds is called Nicholas. It doesn't get shortened.
