Do you like it? Probably will be called Nick most of the time. I have had a few comments that it’s “dated” so wanted some impartial views.

I love the name so much, it’s always been my favourite boys name.

Love it! I know it’s not as popular as it used to be at the moment but it’s such a classic that it never really goes too far out of style - and it sounds refreshing among the swathes of Freds and Teds being born at the moment. Nicky / Nick are such awesome nn’s that you really can’t go wrong.

As Nursery Nurse of 30 years, I really like it. I've never taught a little one. It's well known but unusual at the same time, easy to spell and he won't be one of 3 in the class.

Aww! What names would you say are super popular that you’ve taught? Sorry derailing the thread 😂

And just to get some more views (sorry!) despite the growing trend of nicknames as first names, given I really do like Nicholas too, it’s fine to call him Nicholas and then Nick as a nickname isn’t it? Rather than just Nick on his certificate.

Yes I love it. One of my dearest friends is a Nicholas. Top guy.

Definitely Nicholas as full name and Nick for short, if that's what you want to call him.

Thank you, I’ve been reading through so many threads on here (sleepless nights!) and noticing new trends such as shortened names as full names etc so wondered if my name choice was just very out of date 😂

It's a nice enough name but always reminds me of a, Nick the prick, in school.

Rabssccuttlefissh · 27/02/2025 22:18

I love it ❤️ I like Nick as well.

irts · 27/02/2025 22:19

We have a Nicholas!

He's the only one in his school. We thought it was a bit of a classic without being popular!

We call him Nicholas but we assume at some point he'll be a Nick/Nicky

mumda · 27/02/2025 22:20

I know who who spells the shortened version as Nic.

How lovely! Do you ever call him Nick or always Nicholas? (I suppose it’ll come naturally what I end up calling him most!) and does anyone try and shorten his name to Nico?

That didn’t even cross my mind…

@Umbrellah we tried Nicky when he was born but it didn't stick!
He's Nicholas with middle name Alexander

Babbitbaddit · 27/02/2025 22:25

Mine is always Nicholas or Nick, never Nico

CruCru · 27/02/2025 22:25

I know a primary school aged Nicholas. His parents are Greek so presumably it works in both Greek and English.

I think that's the best way to do it (Nicholas on BC, Nick every day).

I actually know two Nicholases under age four. It's a gorgeous name imo.

DuckieDodgyHedgyPiggy · 27/02/2025 22:26

It's a nice name. I like the nn Nick. I wouldn't think it would be shortened to Nico if you call him Nick or Nicky. Definitely put Nicholas on the birth certificate.

mathanxiety · 27/02/2025 22:28

The two I know aged under four are known as Nick and Nicholas (full name, no abbreviation).

We had a Nicolas in our class and the other lads called him Knickerless 🫣

It’s a great name with great nicknames. I love it. Happy baby to you.

imworkinglate · 27/02/2025 22:33

I have a 12 yr old Nicholas.
We shortened to Nico when he was younger but when he went to high school he chose to go by Nick

imworkinglate · 27/02/2025 22:34

Also have a Robert and a Mary though- so I'm biased on traditional names

ilovelamp82 · 27/02/2025 22:35

Moveoverdarlin · 27/02/2025 21:48

I think it’s really really dated. I would assume was a 55 year old bloke. Nick, Kev, Gary, Rob, Paul, Andy, Steve, Mark.

Not an awful name at all, but really dated.

I would agree with this too. It's not my personal taste but not every name will be and it's certainly not bad. Your child and his peers aren't going to know or feel like it's dated and plenty of names come back around so if you love it then that's what matters. Once he's here and named, he'll look like his name and you'll never think anything of it.

MrsSkylerWhite · 27/02/2025 22:35

Really like Nicholas.

Nick, not so much. Sounds harsh.

Nicky?

takeitbacknowyo · 27/02/2025 22:36

I think of knickerless whenever I read it. I'm weird tho. It's not a bad name.
