Do you like it? Probably will be called Nick most of the time. I have had a few comments that it’s “dated” so wanted some impartial views.

I love the name so much, it’s always been my favourite boys name.

Nicholas , Nick or Nico - classic! 😁

SnoopysHoose · 28/02/2025 10:09

It is timeless, wait until there's a load of 50/60 year olds called Buddy/Teddy/Kayden, it's a good solid name.

You know, I like this name! It's one from my childhood (I'm 53). It's a good name. And Nick is very cool. Great choice!

I love it, it's a good solid name. My godson' youngest baby has been named Nicolai ( the Russian variation ) and we all love it.

I have a Nicholas who is a toddler. We have shortened it to Nico because he sort of did it himself and we liked it but nobody else did it before we did - most people go for Nick or Nicky. We liked it for a December birthday because of St Nicholas and being a classic name but not too Christmassy. I think it's a classic due for a revival.

StampOnTheGround · 28/02/2025 13:32

@Umbrellah quite a few on this thread do like Nico though or even have a child called Nicholas which has been shortened to Nico.

Friends at school will do any shortening they can think of, which could be the one you don't like or, it could be that your child much prefers it too. So I think if you really hate it, then maybe a new name would be better to prevent it ever being a possibility?

sodabreadjam · 28/02/2025 13:46

My DS1 is called Nicholas - he is now in 40. We chose the name because it is international and it is similar to a name in our family tree.

We always used his full name as a child but he gradually became Nick as a teenager and that is what he called by everyone now. Only one person called him Nicky - I'm not a fan and didn't encourage it. No-one called him Nico - I think Italian or Spanish sounding names are possibly more popular now.

The main thing is he likes his name and it seems to suit him.

I disagree, there’s only a few people on here whose sons names have been shortened to Nico. The majority of posters with children called Nicholas haven’t.
