Dulcie is lovely. I know one and she’s funny and clever!

Rosenkohle · 21/02/2025 18:48

How is that pronounced? Dull-see?

MistyF · 21/02/2025 18:53

I love Dulcie

Titasaducksarse · 21/02/2025 18:54

I like the name a lot.

RuthW · 21/02/2025 18:54

Dulcie is nice.

More like Dul-see which in our accent sounds like dol -see

The possibility of people picking out the world Dull is my main reservation
Have considered Dolcie

Love it.

CurlewKate · 21/02/2025 18:56

It's a anglicisation of the Italian for sweet. Not a good name for an adult woman imho.

ClaudineMallory · 21/02/2025 18:58

Dulcie is a sweet name - literally!
I haven't heard that for years. It's lovely.
Not Dolcie, it doesn't sound right. I don't like Delilah because of the Bible story, and I think Dakota will go out of fashion quite quickly.

Poppity3 · 21/02/2025 19:00

Dulcie is lovely! And nice to have the family connection. Another D name I like is Della, a bit of a twist to the ‘Ella’ names but not too unusual.

ClaudineMallory · 21/02/2025 19:01

Della is nice, unusual.

I like Della, worry that people will hear it and assume Bella though

Not really. Quite a different sound.

PercyFone · 21/02/2025 19:20

It makes me think of Dulce et decorum est....

I know the spelling is different but the pronunciation is the same. Not a great association for me, but that might be niche

HugoYorway · 21/02/2025 19:23

It's awful.

HugoYorway · 21/02/2025 19:34

@ClaudineMallory , Della and Bella rhyme.

Yes, indeed.
However. They start with quite different letters, so I doubt mistakes would be made

WaitingForMojo · 21/02/2025 19:36

I do see ‘dull’, sorry. It’s otherwise a lovely name but I wouldn’t personally use it for this reason.

Delia?

JaffavsCookie · 21/02/2025 19:38

Sweet name, taught a lovely kid called Dulcie

Hemlocked · 21/02/2025 19:40

Beautiful name

It always makes me think of this too! I think the Dulcie = sweet thing is hard to forget if you know what it means. I play music so I knew the meaning both from this, and also from the Latin you quoted from my high school English classes. I’d feel like I was calling someone sweetie all the time.

Meghan from Teen mum UK has a Dulcie and it grew on me a little then to be fair.

YesThatsATurdOnTheRug · 21/02/2025 19:48

I love it.

I always thought that the Latin 'Dulce' was pronounced Dul-kay, but it's been a while and I could be wrong!

Starlightstarbright4 · 21/02/2025 19:57

It reminds me of a kitchen appliance name

Millysmum87 · 21/02/2025 19:58

Cute on a baby/young child but I'd personally hate to be named it from about 13 and esp as a woman. I'm not keen on nickname sounding names though. But not my child to name!
