Like it in the Italian way “dolce” and the Italian pronunciation but not sure I like this English version Dul-see. The “Ul” sound is off putting for some reason, don’t hear it often in a name. Reminds me slightly of ulcer.

Maboscelar · 22/02/2025 08:45

I think it's a ugly sounding name, very heavy and clunky. My kitten came called Dulcie and we changed it because we hated it so much. So it's a no from me.

Rosenkohle · 22/02/2025 09:17

I also prefer the Italian pronunciation with a soft c, like dolce

WildCherryBlossom · 22/02/2025 09:19

It has a vintage feel like Elsie, Mabel etc that have been becoming popular. I dominantly think "sweet" from the Latin, Italian, Spanish but that's not a bad connotation. I like that it's a family name.

Nitgel · 22/02/2025 09:20

It's lovely. Reminds me of the actress Dulcie Gray from Howard's Way.

greglet · 22/02/2025 09:20

I love it! I taught a lovely one who'd be about 27 now.

RabbitsRock · 22/02/2025 09:23

I like it OP. And never thought of “ dull” at all.

outofofficeagain · 22/02/2025 09:23

I love it.

There was an actress called Dulcie Grey who was in Howard's Way.

I think it's a great older name that hasn't become too trendy.

HugoYorway · 22/02/2025 11:17

I don't understand how you get Dol-see from Dulcie.

HugoYorway · 22/02/2025 11:30

@Rosenkohle , the Italian pronunciation would be something like Dool-tcheh.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 22/02/2025 11:47

I think people would mishear as Darcie

Growsomeballswoman · 22/02/2025 11:53

Reminds me of a 90's shoe shop.

Dolcie does - Dolcis!

I thought it was more like Dol-che

Mishmashs · 22/02/2025 15:57

It makes me think of sweet things - a pudding. Not really a fan Although I like the sound. What about Dina?

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 22/02/2025 15:58

Dulce de leche is my first thought!
I do like Della though as an alt

SnowFrogJelly · 22/02/2025 16:01

Sweet 🩷

Booksaresick · 22/02/2025 16:02

I have a friend called Dulcie ( pronounced Dol-see). Love the name.

babyfornine · 22/02/2025 17:51

Thanks for the opinions, I think we have decided to stick with it.

@Rosenkohle , u is like a 'oo' sound in Italian. Luca, Luigi, Lucia etc

pilates · 22/02/2025 18:12

Not keen, prefer Della

RogueFemale · 22/02/2025 23:41

@babyfornine I always judge girl names first on the basis of would I like that to be my name? No, I would hate to be called Dulcie. I know old lady names are fashionable but not this one.

Namexchangex · 23/02/2025 08:41

I'd use the nickname "ce ce"

Rosenkohle · 23/02/2025 09:19

HugoYorway · 22/02/2025 18:09
