we can't decide on:

Sebestian (seb)
Oswald (Ozzy)

I realise they are quite strange names but don't want anything ordinary.

Any thoughts?

sebastian

i don't like oswald personally - sorry

tunise · 07/05/2008 17:09

Sebestian is nicer IMO. More classic?

claricebeansmum · 07/05/2008 17:10

I like Sebastian.

Oscar's become Ozzy too.

fleacircus · 07/05/2008 17:10

Sebastian. Ozzy makes me think Osborne.

Sidge · 07/05/2008 17:10

Sebastian is lovely.

Oswald is a hideous name. Sorry.

Oswald makes me think of Oswald Moseley. Not good.

BellaBear · 07/05/2008 17:11

Oswald makes me think of Oswald Moseley

beaniesteve · 07/05/2008 17:12

Oswald will always make me think of the racist Oswald Mosley sorry.

BellaBear · 07/05/2008 17:12

snap!

jingleyjen · 07/05/2008 17:12

my sister has just suggested Otto

belgo · 07/05/2008 17:12

Sebastian isn't at all strange. it's nice.

Oswald is more out of the ordinary, but I don't really have any objections to it, apart from the fact I don't like it.

beaniesteve · 07/05/2008 17:13

he he - snap indeed!

MerlinsBeard · 07/05/2008 17:13

watching....there has been an uprising in the number of sebastians round here. I know of 3!

claricebeansmum · 07/05/2008 17:14

But isn't St Sebastian the bloke with the arrows in him (perhaps someone who paid attention in RS can clarify)

Was there a Sebastian in Brideshead? I think it has conotations of class etc

watching · 07/05/2008 17:16

forgot about the oswald mosley - not good esp as dp is nigerian - but he suggested it! I think he was thinking of Oswald Botang!

Also thinking of Anton but we think it will be small and am worried he'll be bullied and called Ant!!

back to the drawing board!

sebastian, two of the ladies on our antenatal thread used it, not sure if either use seb but one uses Bas.

Fennel · 07/05/2008 17:23

I think of Oswald Bastable.

CantSleepWontSleep · 07/05/2008 17:30

Assuming you meant Sebastian, then go with that. It's a good name.

cornsilk · 07/05/2008 17:32

Don't like either. If I had to choose I'd say Sebastian.

pointydog · 07/05/2008 17:37

neether nyther

edam · 07/05/2008 17:38

Neither but if I had to choose would definitely be Sebastian. Can you imagine the schooldays of a poor kid called Oswald?

LynetteScavo · 07/05/2008 17:39

My friend has a baby Oswald... I would never have considered it, but I think it's great.

Sebastian is quite ordinary, IMO.

edam · 07/05/2008 17:39

I mean, even if you shortened it to Oz, there would always be some sadistic teacher who would read out the full name...

treacletart · 07/05/2008 17:46

Sebastian = v posh Brideshead and teddies , Seb = Toryboy Seb Coe, Oswald = Moseley (tantamount to calling your child Adolf please don't do it!), Ozzy/Ozzie = characterful, cool - Howabout Oscar shortened to Ozzie?
