Is it common knowledge that Jesse is the boy spelling?

My baby is Jesse, very happy with his name BUT I assumed everyone knew that Jesse is the boy spelling and Jessie (and others like Jesy) are girl spellings. We had a trip up the hospital the other day (he's now fine), he was in a white babygrow and from nurses/doctors who had seen his notes called him "she" or "they". Is it not something that people generally know?? I'm wondering if this is something he'll be correcting people on his whole life!

Yes, to me Jesse is a boy's name. Jessie is a girl's name, but it's not the direct equivalent of Jesse - I would assume it was short for Jessica unless I heard otherwise.
