If you live in the south, avoid Etta or names with t in the middle

Eh-ah or Ettt-arr

You wouldn’t get the glottal stop in etta you’d needs consonant to start the word

I swear Clara comes up on every name thread and yet I’ve never met a Clara.

That’s refreshing because normally people say on these threads- we have 30 (claras or whatever the name) in the one class at my child’s school plus all my cousins children are called Clara. Etc etc

Abbiepriestman · 18/01/2025 15:46

Ive never meet any of the names on the list weirdly! Not common where i live and i think clara is 92 on the top 100 so is becoming more popular but still not hear of often x

Clara by a mile but is it Claira or Clahra. As a teacher of quite a few Claras, this is a bit of a minefield for me as I can guarantee I will get it wrong each time.

Motherofrascals · 18/01/2025 15:49

I love Etta! But it does seem like every other girl at the moment has a four letter name ending in A! Between my children's classes we have an Anna, Alma, Ella, Etta, Nora, Rhea, Rosa, Maya, Tara and two Coras!

MummaMummaJumma · 18/01/2025 15:52

Etta is lovely. One of my favourite singers!

Eleanor, definitely!
Evelyn (pronunciation issues) and Clara (v popular, and a bit sickly sweet for me) are OK
Not keen on Etta unless as a nickname

Eleanor is also pronounced differently depending on location.
If you already have an Elaïa could they both get shortened to Elle by schoolfriends? I do love Nell for Eleanor.

Evelyn and Clara are both nice. So is Etta but I do think of it more as a shortened version of a name or as a nickname, but it’s lovely as that.

okydokethen · 18/01/2025 16:45

Love Evelyn
Not so keen on Clara

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 18/01/2025 17:02

Eleanor will become Ellie
Evelyn will become Evie
Etta is a diminutive of Jamesetta (as Etta James), Henrietta etc and you may as well call get Ireallywantedaboy

I like Clara though!

Hi most likely between clara and Evelyn thank you ! Did a post more deciding between middle names for them both .def wanted two girls just thought etta was nicer then henrietta which i think is a bit frumpy sounding to me x

I prefer Evelyn with your first daughter's name. More distinct from it. And I know lots of people love Clara but I'm not sure on it, for me it gives off a very straight-laced vibe.

I like Evelyn Lily a lot, and preference for Clara would be Clara Josephine.
