I really like Etta from your list. Another to consider in the same vein might be Emmeline.

I like Evelyn but there are two in my son’s class- one pronounced Eve-lyn and the other Everlyn

It’s a bit of a pain to be honest

MumonabikeE5 · 16/01/2025 07:44

Im always interested in the reason a name has been chosen.
when you know why you like something that makes it easier to choose- is it the meaning, the memory of a person, or?

DrEggman · 16/01/2025 07:45

Evelyn is so overused and there are sooooo many Evies it’s dull.

I really like Clara, Etta feels like half a name.

Eleanor
Clara
Etta
Evelyn

I think all of these names are lovely.

NamingBee · 16/01/2025 08:19

Etta or Clara are lovely! On my baby name list if we do ever have another.

I personally think Eleanor is a bit of a boring name (sorry!). Much prefer just Elle on its own, Nora or Norie.

Evelyn is a lovely name but know of one who always has to correct the pronunciation so they could get annoying. I would assume it was pronounced eh-va-lin but others pronounce it ee-va-lin. It is also very popular, so depends if you want something a little less popular to go with Elaia - gorgeous name by the way, was nearly my girls middle spot!

Thewalrusandthecarpenter · 16/01/2025 08:22

I like Etta but also love Henrietta so would put that on the BC

SunshineFlowersFood · 16/01/2025 08:25

I like all but Etta stands out as the best for me. I think it's classy and unique whereas second on my list Eleanor (or Ellie variants) is very popular. Only thing to consider would be a accents, I could imagine my sister for example saying eh-uh

Emanwenym · 16/01/2025 08:45

You'd also need to consider the surname. Etta Lamb would be ridiculous.

Threegiraffes · 16/01/2025 08:48

Love Etta and Clara! I know a little Etta and considered Clara myself

Jibberjabba · 16/01/2025 08:49

Clara

BlondeMamaToBe · 16/01/2025 08:50

Evelyn will be shortened to Eve/Evie as soon as she’s old enough if others don’t do it before that.

You don’t have to decide now. See what she looks like when she’s born

user1492757084 · 16/01/2025 09:24

You already have an Elaia so although Eleanor is my favourite, it is too similar to Elaia.

Do you like ..
Mietta - Mee-ETTA
Loretta
Gisele

Eleanor

Abbiepriestman · 16/01/2025 09:57

Surname would be wilkes ! So not a crazy one but has to flow yes

Mumofgirls2017 · 16/01/2025 10:31

Clara definitely!

CoffeeBeansGalore · 16/01/2025 10:44

Clara is lovely.

As pp, Etta is sweet but feels more of a nickname.
Could you use a longer name of which Etta could be the shortened version?

Mariette
Georgette
Harriet
Arietta
Juliet
Collette
Antoinette
Lysette
Scarlet

I like them all but think that Evelyn might get shortened to Evie and there are roughly, at a conservative estimate, 50 billion Evie's just in our town alone.

Yeah it will. There's two Evelyns and an Evalina in my 8-baby NCT group, and all are shortened to Evie.

I think Elaia probably rules out Eleanor? They sound so similar.

pilates · 16/01/2025 10:57

I like them all which is unusual for me.

Eleanor if I had to choose

Abbiepriestman · 16/01/2025 11:02

I think were most stuck between clara and Evelyn( maybe we will have to see what she looks like at birth !) i know she might be nicknamed which annoys me i would nickname her that though but not replace it as a name as a whole ! Elaïa goes to baby ballet and theres 35 girls and no girls with those names but could be the age range maybe there 18m/3 years ! Or maybe where i live ? Because i know Evelyns on the rise and Eleanor but again never meet any which is strange really ! Lol xxx

Hmm with you already having an Elaia I would probably go with Eleanor or Evelyn.
Elaia and Clara doesn't flow very well.

Do you like Evangeline? Similar to Evalina but more traditional and nicer I think!

If you're stick between two try asking your MW how many they've met recently. That should give you a feel for how popular the name is in your area, and makes can be very regional Wink

Go for Clara then. I can’t see any reason why you couldn’t! And it’s a different letter which is nice. And also two syllables.

Frostine · 16/01/2025 20:12

How about Etholle pronounced as Et-o-lee so Etta is a good nn.

Fatloss · 16/01/2025 20:31

My preference from Evelyn Wilkes or Clara Wilkes is Clara. I’m just going on personal preference and not being sure of pronunciation.

I like Eleanor
Etta feels like a nickname. My phone did not recognise and may have auto corrected - first option Etc. it was fine with the other three

I don’t know about popularity of the name, but does it matter to you?
adults seem to split into, I like having an easy, average name or I felt just one in a crowd with my popular name.

Or I love my name as it’s unusual and I get remembered vs I hate standing out.
