Naming a baby after an “Anne” but with a variation of Anne

we have a long long line of Annes in our family which it would be nice to keep going but with a bit of an update. Trying to think of names derived from Anne that aren’t quite as dated as Anne. So far I have the following which I would welcome views on but also I would welcome other ideas.

Annie
Anna (already used in the most recent generation as an update so can’t immediately be used again)
Anya
Annabelle
Nina (Russian diminutive of Anne - love this but is it too removed from Anne?)

Anais is a lovely name . Pronunciation is Anne -ehz

Not Anna-ees like the French name Anaïs then?

Pieceofpurplesky · 10/01/2025 17:21

Annabeth is lovely.

Ananya is also lovely

Anne on its own is lovely though. Timeless.

HugoYorway · 10/01/2025 17:27

Annabeth is lovely. I think it's awful
Ananya is also lovely It's just a noise.
Anne on its own is lovely though. Timeless. I agree. Simple and elegant.

@HugoYorway Ananya is a name not a noise. The name of someone I know who is very lovely

HugoYorway · 10/01/2025 21:44

It sounds like somebody talking when eating.

Namesy · 10/01/2025 22:23

Just use 'Anne' as a middle name and call her something else.

Rockmehardplace · 10/01/2025 23:39

Nina is gorgeous!
Annelia?
Rhiannon
Rhian

Aniyah
Marianne
Annie-May

I know a 9 year old Anika and a 2 year old Annie. I wasn't sure about it to start with, but Annie has really grown on me and of course it's very easy if she wants to be Anne when she's older to do that. Anya is nice too

Daisybuttercup12345 · 11/01/2025 00:13

Nothing wrong with Ann or Anne. Why change it? Nice classic name.

Annne?

Well that just looks like a spelling mistake.

Annabeth is strongly asociated with the Percy Jackson books (and now Disney+ TV series). Rick Riordan madeup the name (although later discovered it was actually already used but it's very rare). Annabeth is one of the lead characters and is smart and cool so it's not a bad association but something you might want to be aware of.

If not already suggested, I love the name Antonia (could have Nina as a nn)

HugoYorway · 11/01/2025 17:32

Antonia is a completely different name to Anne

Pieceofpurplesky · 11/01/2025 23:30

@JaninaDuszejko I think the actress Annabeth Gish would argue with that fact as she had been acting a while before Percy Jackson - Mystic Pizza?

Edited

@Pieceofpurplesky Sure, as I said Rick Riordan thought he'd made it up but discovered it was already used before he thought of it. But for a child born now the Percy Jackson link will be the strongest, not an actress in a film from the 80s.

Sally Ann / Sally Anne is a lovely name too.

The shortened name of the Salvation Army though.

Anne isn’t “dated”, it’s completely classic. You can use it and then your child can use any diminutive or variation they want.

My grandmother was Annie but always known as Nancy. I love the name Anastasia.

Hoppinggreen · 12/01/2025 20:52

Anneli or Annalee (pronounced the same)

mathanxiety · 13/01/2025 23:39

Annarose
Annamaria
Annegret
Anne-Marie
Anne-Claire
Anoushka
Anouk
Annick
Hannah
Nancy

Marcipix · 13/01/2025 23:54

I really don’t like Annie.

I do like Anne and Anneli.
I know an Angelica. Could that work?

Or a hyphenated name although most mumsnetters dislike them.
Anne-Rose
Anne-Faith
Anne-Violet

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 13/01/2025 23:55

Aine

AnniesMother · 14/01/2025 00:03

Anne and Ann are family names in both mine and my husband's families, going back generations.
We went for Annie to honour them all without having to choose one spelling of 'Ann(e)'
