Baby Names Opinions - Levina, Liora & Emmeline for a girl, Remus for a boy.

Hello all,

I am 17 weeks pregnant, unsure of the gender yet but will hopefully find out next month. We have chosen Remus for a baby boy, my partner loves the name as do I. His family & my family also adore it. What do you all think to it? + for a baby girl, we all love: Levina, Liora and Emmeline. We keep changing our minds with the girl name, can’t make a decision. I know we still have a lot of time, but I think hearing other peoples thoughts would be a big help. Honest answer are much appreciated, which do you prefer and why? + which don’t you like and why?

Ellie.

Remus as in Romulus and Remus? The founders of Rome? What made you pick it? There are other, much more attractive sounding ancient Roman names, if that's what you are going for.

Girls names are ok, though again - why these particular names? I prefer Emmeline, lovely name. Liora is Hebrew, Levina is what, German? Or made up? I think they would only work if you have a special reason for choosing them.

I love Emmeline but if your name is Ellie, you'd be L and M. Might be cute, might not.

Remus was murdered by his twin. Not a great story.

That's a good point. If the OP is really Ellie I'd avoid Emmeline as she will in all probability be called Emmy.

Rents is ok but I think he murdered his twin too.

shoopshoopdedoo · 21/12/2024 20:07

I don’t mind Emmeline, though I prefer Emma. The others wouldn’t be to my taste, but then you probably wouldn’t like my name choices! Remus seems very unusual so I can only think of Romulus and Remus. I like Remy better I think.

SunshineAndFizz · 21/12/2024 20:13

Emmeline is gorgeous.

Not a fan of the others, or Remus if I'm honest.

mathanxiety · 21/12/2024 20:14

Levina sounds madey uppey and a bit boring.

Liora sounds a bit madey uppey too, and bland.

Emmeline is very nice.

I knew a chocolate lab named Remus - a lovely, friendly, goofy animal. There's nothing wrong with it as a name for a child.

Moreteaandchocolate · 21/12/2024 21:05

I don’t know anyone called Remus, but it could grow on me and I like Remy for short.

I like Emmeline best from your girls ideas. Levina and Liora I haven’t heard before and would be a bit of a nuisance to explain / spell out etc I think.

BootballJoy · 21/12/2024 22:53

I would assume you were Harry Potter fans, and that Remus was after Remus Lupin. Not a bad association.

I also think Emmeline is the best of your girls' names. Similar names to the list could be Genevieve, Leonora, Alina.

SkaneTos · 21/12/2024 22:53

The name Remus makes me think of Remus Lupin in the Harry Potter books.
If I met someone named Remus I would think that his parents are fans of Harry Potter. (But I'm not from the UK, it might be a much more common name in the UK than I know).

I love the name Leonora, added that one to my short list.

I don't like any of them. Emmeline isn't too bad, but Emma and Emily are nicer,

RuthW · 22/12/2024 16:20

Emmeline is lovely. The others all sound made up, sorry

Elliecritten · 29/12/2024 20:05

Remus is from Harry Potter & I have added Enya to the list. That’s unique, but a more common version is Anya. X

Also like Elias for a baby boy, it’s unique Spanish but not a made up name ☺️ just different origins. X

It makes me think of Lenor and Adam Levine

I get that. My husband is from a different country so our children are also mixed heritage with names that reflect this.
I like Elias.

UpMyself · 29/12/2024 20:38

It's not unique Spanish, @Elliecritten . Babies called Elias in England & Wales since 1996.
It's very popular in England and Wales.

Just looked online, its origin is Greek. X

Thanks. What do you think of Enya & Elio? Elio for a baby boy. 👦🏽

OP posts:
Catlord · 29/12/2024 21:13

Melina has a common medical meaning - black blood in stools. I wouldn't use it.

Elias is beautiful but not unique

Romulus and Remus wouldn't be a great namesake and is a really well known story. People will know this more than Harry Potter.

Leona or Leonora nicer than Liora. Levina both dull and fussy.

Emmeline a bit frilly but good association. I prefer Emma.

Catlord · 29/12/2024 21:17

Not Elio. Eli is better. If you want a sun association there are lots but Elio sounds like a corporate brand

Enya too closely linked with one famous person (although not a bad association). Anya or Eithne better
