Middle name for Lila?

MaltipooMama · 06/12/2024 15:11

So we're pretty sure we're going for the name Lila for our next baby, what middle names might go nicely with that? Names that I like but don't think would go as a middle name are:

Elara
Adalynne
Willow
Elodie

I guess I like kind of pretty, girly names if anyone has any suggestions ☺️

I wonder if your name could be your daughter's middle name? Thinking I have my Mum's name as a middle name, my Brother my Dads, which is a bit of a tradition in the family.

I would've loved that but if you say my name very fast it could almost pass for the same name! I've had a nightmare spelling and pronouncing it for people over the years so don't think I could bear to pass that down!

@MaltipooMama , the Welsh 'name' is Tegan. Teg rhymes with egg and an rhymes with can. It means toy or plaything so isn't great as a name even if it sounds and looks pretty.

Atishooo · 09/12/2024 15:19

Rae is in the same catagory as Rose/May/Grace.

I don’t like Darcie at all.

TheBirdintheCave · 09/12/2024 16:48

@MaltipooMama Tegan rhymes with Megan :)

FayCarew · 09/12/2024 17:50

Rae is in the same catagory as Rose/May/Grace. Yes, in that it's a filler but Rose, May and Grace are quite nice.

Rae is very much a filler middle name.
Coralie is OK.
Teagan or Tegan - can't get past the egg sound in the middle.
Darcie - can't get past the arse sound in the middle.

How about -
Lila Macy
Lila Daisy
Lila Tamsin
Lila Sadie
Lila Maeve
Lila Beth
Lila Bethan
Lila Maisie

Yes I was sitting on the same reservations about the same four names.

Rae to me is something that fell into popularity with Pulp Fiction: “ Billy Ray was a preacher’s son…” Thenceforth, people have tacked Ray/ Rae onto anything to give a “ vibe.” Is it actually a nice name? Before then to me Ray was a late middle-aged, middle management type with a comb over, a white business shirt you could see his vest through and his belt let out several notches for when he first got the job twenty years earlier.

All the Coralies I have known were also middle-aged, slightly frumpy, slightly grumpy and with a keen interest in something crafty like crochet. Not a bad thing … but also not really aspirational for a baby girl.

Tegan… well you know … egg.. egghead… It’s just not an attractive sound to me.

And Darcie/Darcey has always baffled me. I THINK it comes from the French d’Arcy ( of the town of Arcy) which immediately, when, moved into “Franglais”, definitely puts one in mind of “ D’Arsey.” Arsey Darcey. It’s like an English comedy French character: Odeur d’Arsey.

Calliopespa · 10/12/2024 00:03

Op if you like Rae, what about Freya, which has a similar sound in it?

I can’t get away from the idea of Rae as short for Raewyn, which I’d put in a similar category as Gwyneth - albeit Paltrow actually carries it quite well considering …

FayCarew · 10/12/2024 09:12

Lila Rachel is nice and would shorten to Lila Rae.
Gwyneth is a Welsh name and is nothing like Raewyn, which looks made up. We had a neighbour called Auntie Gwyneth.

Raewyn is a more modern name ( though I know a 70 year old Raewyn so not super new) and again it has Welsh roots from gwyn and rhay ( Prince)

FayCarew · 10/12/2024 11:41

You got that from a baby name site. Gwyn is masculine, and rhay doesn't look Welsh. Prince in Welsh is tywysog. Rae might be from Latin

Rae the Scottish surname means deer, I think.

Edited

I got it from a receptionist at a place where I did an internship as a student. Her name was Raewyn. She’d be about mid 70’s now.

FayCarew · 10/12/2024 12:44

Oh, OK but it sounds like she was misled. -wyn is masculine, with the feminine being -wen.
