Middle name for Lila?

MaltipooMama · 06/12/2024 15:11

So we're pretty sure we're going for the name Lila for our next baby, what middle names might go nicely with that? Names that I like but don't think would go as a middle name are:

Elara
Adalynne
Willow
Elodie

I guess I like kind of pretty, girly names if anyone has any suggestions ☺️

Lyla Iris is mine. Love her name.

I know you said you aren’t suggesting those names as middle name possibilities, but before I read your OP I thought Lila Elodie. Other suggestions

Lila felicity
Lila Harriet
Lila Sienna

Middle names that start with a vowel run into the Lila though, when spoken. For example Lila Relodie. Lila Rannie.

I have a Lyla Jasmine - I went for the Ly spelling to avoid it being pronounced Lil - a - I still love it 13 years on!

That's a lovely combination! I would love to spell it like that but it just becomes way too similar to the spelling of my name!

Lila-riris is how it ends up spoken though!

@marshmallowfinder it really doesn't and has never happened.
Middle names are rarely said anyway

Atishooo · 07/12/2024 13:08

Anything but May/Grace/Rose. Done to death. Every girl is a something Rose/Grace/May so every Lila will be too. Lila Jasmine is lovely.

I work with children so can tell you they all have Rose/Grace/May as middle names or hyphenated.

Middle names that start with a vowel run into the Lila though, when spoken. For example Lila Relodie. Lila Rannie.

It may be a regional thing because when I say them it doesn’t run together. I appreciate this does happen a lot with first name ending in vowel and middle name beginning with a vowel though.

I am so over go to one syllable middle names. I think a longer middle name is often a better balance, and, as a total name geek, I love hearing more unusual middle names.

Lila Kate
Lila Katherine
Lila Juliet

I was going to say Lila Kate as well.

sel2223 · 08/12/2024 08:21

Annoyingly Rose, Grace and May all sound lovely with Lila (as they do with most names which is why they're so popular).
I'd find them too common though so I'd look for an alternative 1 syllable name.

Lila Jade
Lila Kate
Lila Beth
Lila June
Lila Jean
Lila Joy
Lila Wren
Lila Faith
Lila Fern
Lila Pearl

Emmz1510 · 08/12/2024 11:44

These are all pretty (I take it you ruled them out as first names?) but I really think it should be something with one syllable or else it’s a really mouthful.

Lila Grace
Lila Rose
Lila May
Lila Jane
Lila Belle
Lila Eve
Lila Jo

You already have two "L's" in Lila, yet all of your suggestions also have
L's". That's a lot of similar sounds.

Try a name without the L sound, also not starting with an "A", as then one has to "stop" between names, for example:

Lila Anna
Lila Alice

It also makes a difference the initial letter of your surname and the length, as to how the whole name will flow. Bearing in mind that mostly your daughter will be known as Lila Surname, not Lila Middlename Surname

Best wishes to you.

Isthisthisreallife · 08/12/2024 11:49

If you’re pronouncing it lie-la I would personally use Lyla spelling as I would say Lee-la the way you have it and know a few children with this pronunciation too.

Lila Skye
Lila Maisie
Lila June
Lila Maeve
Lila Paige
Lila Rue
Lila Nell
Lila Jade

Lila Alice is very pretty.

Lila Belle sounds like a steamship.

Marie, Jane or Ruth?

Riapia · 08/12/2024 13:15

Lila Lil.

Immediately I thought of Rose. Simple and pretty. I think the names you picked are pretty but a mouthful but that's just my opinion

Even before I opened the thread I thought Rose. Funny to see it was the first comment!
I'd go with Rose

SwordBilledHummingbird · 08/12/2024 14:16

We have a Lila in the family and I think one syllable middle names work well. Some nice ones:

Lila Grace
Lila May
Lila Rose
Lila Anne

FayCarew · 08/12/2024 14:36

Lila Grace, Lila May, Lila Rose, Lila Anne All filler middle names.
If Grace, May and Rose are so nice, why weren't they popular when we were born?

Lila Marie
Lila Marianne
