Middle name for Lila?

MaltipooMama · 06/12/2024 15:11

So we're pretty sure we're going for the name Lila for our next baby, what middle names might go nicely with that? Names that I like but don't think would go as a middle name are:

Elara
Adalynne
Willow
Elodie

I guess I like kind of pretty, girly names if anyone has any suggestions ☺️

Lila Grace, Lila May, Lila Rose, Lila Anne All filler middle names.
If Grace, May and Rose are so nice, why weren't they popular when we were born?

Because fashion changes?

When I was born it was Louise, Marie and Jane

UnimaginableWindBird · 08/12/2024 15:59

My grandmother was Lila Mary.

I like

Lila Margot
Lila Joan
Lila Beatrice
Lila Frances
Lila Constance
Lila Violet
Lila Penelope
Lila Florence
Lila Pearl
Lila Marjorie
Lila Margaret
Lila Maude

Lila Martine

Don't listen to anyone who says rose or grace, literally everyone uses these as middle names (it was Louise in the 80s), total lack of imagination.

Use a name that is meaningful, eg a family or place or plant name.

flippetty · 08/12/2024 17:14

Oh or May/Mae

FayCarew · 08/12/2024 17:55

@sel2223 , when I was at school it was Anne or Jane, with some Louise, Marie or Clare. Rose, Grace or May would have seemed old-fashioned.

I really loathe this perception. My daughter has Rose as her middle name. It's also my middle name, my nanna's first name, her mum's first name, her grandma's first name... you get the idea.

I agree some people are just choosing the names because they sound nice but to those of us following traditions or honouring family members the names really mean something to us.

I just wanted to point out that it's not a lack of imagination for everyone who chooses Rose or May etc.

Exactly, and now it's the reverse and those other names seem dated while every other female child these days seems to have Rose, Grace or May as their middle name.

Gemstonebeach · 08/12/2024 18:37

Lila Adelaide
Lila Elizabeth
Lila Jane
Lila Chloe

FayCarew · 08/12/2024 18:40

@TheBirdintheCave , many of the Something Anne/Janes were Anne/Jane after their mother or grandmother, but because it was so overused, it looked like it had been used just to have a middle name.

AllIsMerryAndBright · 08/12/2024 20:06

I like Adaline but would spell it like this.

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 08/12/2024 22:34

Grace

Taste changes.

There were six Christine Maries in my year, and three Sharon Annes, plus three Anne-Maries.

Shoobidowhop · 09/12/2024 07:30

I think because its so close to Lilac then anything floral sounds overly botanical, wouldn't go with Rose for that reason though it sounds good.

If your son has a family middle name then would you not do the same? That's always my preference as more meaningful.

Grace does seem old fashioned to me but I ( mid 40’s) knew a middle name May growing up, plus a middle and first name Rose and a first name Rosa.

Rose, especially, I would consider quite classic and I don’t think it’s ever really totally out of fashion.

Similarly it does sound like Lily.

I don’t dislike Lily Rose but there have been lots in the wake of Depp’s daughter ( though at the time I have to say I thought they chose surprisingly well for a celebrity baby name 🙄.)

Bbq1 · 09/12/2024 07:51

Elizabeth
Lisa

Does Lila Lisa work? It sounds like a teletubby to me.

I’d also avoid Lila Lola or Lila Lulu.,

Thanks to you all for your inputs and suggestions! I have narrowed down to four (not definite still just possibilities), does anyone like:

Lila Rae
Lila Teagan
Lila Coralie
Lila Darcie

I think these are the sorts of names I like if anyone has any similar ideas 😀

Lila Rae - Rae seems a bit trashy as a middle name. It's fine as a surname
Lila Teagan - sounds like Tea gun
Lila Coralie - looks pretty but I don't like the sound
Lila Darcie - Darcie/Darcy/Darcey is past its best. I never liked it.

Coralie is the best of those.

Sorry but no, I don't like any of those
Main thing is OP do you and the babys Dad like them?

MaltipooMama · 09/12/2024 13:37

@Hoppinggreen was expecting a lot of "no" reactions 😂 oh yes of course, ultimately we will go with whatever we want, it's just interesting hearing people's thoughts! I had similar reactions to our boy's name but we happily went ahead and called him his name anyway. Our son's name is a variation of his father's name so I have complete autonomy with our upcoming daughter's name, as long as he doesn't really dislike it of course!

I wonder if your name could be your daughter's middle name? Thinking I have my Mum's name as a middle name, my Brother my Dads, which is a bit of a tradition in the family.

TheBirdintheCave · 09/12/2024 14:03

@MaltipooMama I like Lilah Coralie the best from your list.

I'd like Lilah Tegan too but only spelt that way and using the correct Welsh pronunciation.

I really like the "h" added onto the end, hadn't thought of that and it looks very pretty. Please can you spell the Welsh version phonetically for me?
