Hi everyone! I am looking for a boy's name that starts with E as my name is Elsa. I like names that are not very common in the classroom like Liam, Oliver etc. I prefer a name that is elegant, strong and with a British and international sound too. Which of the following combinations sounds interesting to you? :-)
I am open to other suggestions of names too. So Far, I like Eric, Patrick and Adrian.

Eric Frederick
Eric Franklin
Eric Patrick
Eric Adrian

Thanks for your insights! 😘

Some small things to think about:

Eric Frederick would be double "eric", Patrick would be double "ric"— both have the internal rhyme so would have a musical quality to it, but maybe more whimsical than you're looking for?

Eric Adrian might spell out something with his initials if you have a surname begining with T or R.

crostini · 14/11/2024 13:17

Yep agree that you can't pair Eric with Patrick or Frederick.
I love the name and Patrick though.

If you're looking for other E names:
Elio
Ezra
Elliot
Ezekiel
Eddy

Also for the record, I would say that there are swarms of Liams in the classroom in England in 2024. And it's a lovely strong name.

TheCountessofLocksley · 14/11/2024 13:20

Surely Francis rather than Frederick. Got to keep that Frozen vibe going @Elsa2025

StressedQueen · 14/11/2024 13:21

I like Eric Adrian

Moreteaandchocolate · 14/11/2024 13:46

Eric sounds a bit comical to me as I don’t know anyone with the name - and it’s often used as a name for a funny character, e.g. Eric and Ernie on the muppets! But I’m sure as soon as I met a little Eric my associations would change.

Do you like Evan, Eli / Elijah, Ethan, Ellis or Elliot?

Ygfrhj · 14/11/2024 13:52

I know a baby Eric, lovely name. Of your suggestions I like Eric Franklin.

MiddleAgedDread · 14/11/2024 13:54

Oliver has been in the top of the baby name charts for years, it's very popular!!
Patrick Adrian or Adrian Patrick work well of the names on your list. I don't think any of them particularly flow well with Eric.
Eric James
Eric William
Eric Charles
Eric George

If it needs to begin with E.....
Elliot Patrick
Evan Frederick
Edward Patrick
Edward Franklin
Ethan Patrick

Ebabllisstggoffor · 14/11/2024 13:55

I much prefer Adrian as the first name.

Pelagi · 14/11/2024 14:01

Eric is a great name - as you say, very international. Agree with PP pointing out the rhyming nature of Patrick and Frederick. Adrian is also great, not much used these days either.

SkaneTos · 14/11/2024 14:03

Eric is a great name!

All your ideas for middle names are good. My favourite is Franklin.

@Moreteaandchocolate Thanks. I do like Elliot, but someone mentioned that Elliot is too outdated in England and reminds them of a rough and naughty boy. Sometimes, and old man.😳

@Pelagi Thanks. Would you say Eric Franklin or Adrian Franklin in England? What is your favourite?

@MiddleAgedDread , I think your suggestion for Ethan is quite nice. Isn't it too used in England these days? I cannot think of any famous Ethan right now. Do you prefer Ethan or Eric without second names?

OP posts:
Pelagi · 14/11/2024 14:46

Personally I prefer Adrian but that doesn’t meet the requirement for beginning with E 😄. They both work in England though.

Daisybuttercup12345 · 14/11/2024 14:51

Edward
Edison
Edgar
Ethan
I like though. I would have Adrian from your list.
Eric Michael
Eric William
Eric David
Eric Matthew
Eric Kevin.
Eric George.

MiddleAgedDread · 14/11/2024 14:52

If you have a google there's stats online as to how popular names are and there's one that shows rises and falls in popularity.

Nap1983 · 14/11/2024 14:54

Eric is horrific..
Patrick and Adrian are both nice.

@Nap1983 Can you explain why you think the name Eric is horrific, dreadful, disgusting? Does anybody agree with that? and Why?

You can check current popularity here if you need but popular names are not like they were 20 years ago, there's so much diversity now not likely to get 4 in a class maybe just a couple: https://names.darkgreener.com/#ethan I wouldn't worry about anything outside the top 10. For contrast #1 name Noah had 4,586 boys named it in 2022 (latest data), but #1 name in 1996 was Jack and 10,779 boys were named it.

Of your choices:
Ethan #43 - 1,268 boys names it in 2022 (this has reduced in popularity recently was #11 in 2011)
Eric #129 - 435 boys (on the rise assume due to Prince Eric from The Little Mermaid)
Patrick #126 - 440 boys
Adrian #298 - 151 boys

You're always going to get people who personally dislike the names, especially the ones lower in the rankings because naturally they're not as in fashion at the moment. But all are perfectly acceptable names in England and clearly each have a few hundred parents who love the name each year. Just pick the one you love the most! For me all the middle name combinations work, quite like the repeated sound.

Its my opinion, which is all you can give. I never mentioned either dreadful or disgusting, you made that up.

TheNameIsDickDarlington · 14/11/2024 17:31

Who are Eric and Ernie in the Muppets? I know Bert and Ernie but I think that's Seasme street.

I have an Eric and love the name. I will warn you though that it seems to be rising in popularity. We often see others while we're out and about. It doesn't seem mad popular but if you want something particularly rare I don't think Eric will be it for long.

@Nap1983 Yes, horrific is indeed a synonym for dreadful and can also relate to disgusting in certain contexts. You can look at chat GPT if you feel a bit lazy to go for the reputable dictionaries out there. And if "some"people" can just go around using negative adjectives for a name without any reasoning behind it, they will just waste their time here. I am too rational for nonsense explanations! Thanks!

Interesting you say Elliot makes you think 'old man' - the only ones I know are 17 & 5

I do however know 4 old men called Eric! It's not my favourite

Also though 3 Adrians - all between 40-60, very middle aged name

Aidan is more modern and goes well with Patrick

Elliot Patrick
Ethan Patrick
Eli Patrick all sound nice

SkaneTos · 14/11/2024 17:41

@Elsa2025
There will always be someone who does not like a name, for whichever reason.

You like the name Eric, and that is what is important.
It's a great classic name!
I know many Erics, and they are all very kind.
