Hi everyone! I am looking for a boy's name that starts with E as my name is Elsa. I like names that are not very common in the classroom like Liam, Oliver etc. I prefer a name that is elegant, strong and with a British and international sound too. Which of the following combinations sounds interesting to you? :-)
I am open to other suggestions of names too. So Far, I like Eric, Patrick and Adrian.

Eric Frederick
Eric Franklin
Eric Patrick
Eric Adrian

Thanks for your insights! 😘

The only Eric I know is in his eighties.
I know an Elliott who is seven.
I love Ethan, I nearly picked it for one of my sons but didn't, wish I had.
Probably just as well as he really likes the name he ended up with.

RuthW · 14/11/2024 17:47

Eric is fabulous but not keen on the middle names with it

BootballJoy · 14/11/2024 18:01

Eric, Franklin, Patrick all good names.

I don't see Elliot as a 'naughty' name although there are a lot of young Elliots so chances are some misbehave! It's really not an old man name though at all. It's 83rd as Elliot and 103rd as Elliott so combined it's fairly popular.

Not a fan of Adrian. Actually Adrian does seem more of a middle aged man's name to me!

Ethan is significantly more popular than Liam currently (Ethan 43rd, Liam 76th) so I wouldn't go for Ethan if popularity bothers you.

I think Casper, Vincent, Matthias, Conrad, Alistair, Edmund, Julian/Julius, Fabian might fit your bill of outside top 100 names but not unheard of?

I really do like both Eric and Patrick though.

BootballJoy · 14/11/2024 18:10

Totally missed the E thing. In that case, I'd go for Eric Franklin or Edmund Patrick.

Firsttimebabymummy · 14/11/2024 19:26

Love Eric

Eric Franklin would be my choice.

Firsttimebabymummy · 14/11/2024 19:28

Would also like to suggest

Eric Andrew
Eric Wilfred
Eric Alexander

@Nap1983 Can you explain why you think the name Eric is horrific, dreadful, disgusting? Does anybody agree with that? and Why?

I really can't stand Eric but I couldn't tell you why, apart from that it's an old man name to me, and not in a good way. I like Albert, Fred, Bert for old man names.
Adrian is OK, but I really like Patrick. I knew a gorgeous Patrick once ...😀

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 14/11/2024 20:07

Eric is nice enough - a bit old man on the allotment, but that seems back in fashion again (the Viking Erik spelling is much cooler - but it might be a hassle saying “Erik with a K” regularly).

Not keen on your middle names - Frederick and Patrick rhyme with Eric, Adrian is quite middle aged to me and Franklin a bit surname (but I guess the best of the bunch). Are they family names?

My favourite E names for boys (apart from timeless classic but popular Edward) is Welsh Emrys - but that might be too uncommon for you. Evan and Elias are nice too though imo and have a more middling popularity?

schoolsoutforever · 14/11/2024 20:26

I like Eric (or Erik?). Isn't it Scadinavian in origin (Eric the Vikiing, if you're old enough)?
Adrian reminds me of Adrian Mole, who I love, but I wouldn't want for a son.

Patrick is OK. Would he be Paddy or Pat or even Rick?

How about: Laurence, Francis (Frank which I LOVE), Sidney (Sid).

For me, names like Ethan and Elliot are a bit too fashionable and American but they have a nice sound.

schoolsoutforever · 14/11/2024 20:30

Actually someone mentioned Evan upthread - that's nice. Is it Welsh? IN any case, it does start with an E and has a nice sound.

HeadlessGummyBears · 14/11/2024 20:38

Sebastian
Remy
Robin
Philip
Nicholas
Luca/Lucas
Julian
Hugo
Henry
Flynn
Christopher
Finn
Elliot

Eoin

waltzingparrot · 14/11/2024 21:12

I think Edmund is a strong name.

Edmund Guy
Edmund Rafe
Edmund Drew

butterfly0404 · 14/11/2024 21:15

I love Eric, it was my late dad's name. I think these more traditional names are making a comeback x

salamithumbs · 14/11/2024 21:29

I like Eric Patrick the best of those options as I'm not a fan of Adrian, Franklin or Fredrick.
Other E names:
Elijah
Ellis
Elliott
Eli
Evan
Ethan
Elias

Milkand2sugarsplease · 14/11/2024 22:34

I have a friend with an Eryk which I love.

Leeloo1233 · 15/11/2024 07:28

Eric is a great name. I live in Scandinavia and it's very cool and fresh name here. Same with Elliott, I know a couple that has a Max and Elliott and they are gorgeous.

Btw I think it's very rude for some people to comment saying that the name is ugly or horrible etc. When you have specifically said you are considering it. When you're pregnant the hormones make you very vulnerable and these kind of comments are not helpful. Try to ignore this and dont let them put you off the name. You will never find a name that everyone likes and your choices are really good. Go with Eric, it is strong and handsome!

RogueFemale · 19/11/2024 01:45

If you want British-sounding, then cross Franklin off the list, it's a US name.

Agree with others about the repeat -ic sound of Eric Frederick or Patrick.

If you want an international sound, then names like Frederick, William, James, Edward etc are also good, with variations in all Western languages.

I've never liked the name Adrian.

StandingSideBySide · 19/11/2024 01:59

I love the name Eric
it is an extremely old name and means ‘ forever ruler and ever powerful’. That’s such a strong meaning

I think a second name like James goes well and falls off the tongue easily
Eric James
others that flow well might be
Eric John

Soontobeunemployed · 19/11/2024 02:10

Ernest? Edgar? Everest?

KirstenBlest · 19/11/2024 09:23

Adrian is a 60-year old's name, and not a nice name either, and will sound different in different languages.
I know one young Eric and one my age. I quite like it.
Elliott isn't dated IMO.
I know lots of Ethans all in their early 20s.
Patrick is nice but he'll be Pat or Paddy in the UK.

Looking for famous people with a name is a bit dodgy as many people have names that were fashionable when they were born. Names that are dated in the UK might be trendy in other countries and vice versa.

Baby names in England & Wales since 1996 shows the popularity of names in England and Wales but the data is about 3 years behind.

KirstenBlest · 19/11/2024 09:37

@schoolsoutforever , Evan is the anglicised form of Ifan, and is derived from Johannes.

Catandsquirrel · 19/11/2024 10:12

Patrick is my favourite for a name but not with Eric.

I don't care for Eric personally but especially with those middle names. Patrick and Frederick have the same ending as Eric so I would avoid those. Eric Patrick is better because the stress pattern makes the ending less noticeable but it's still a bit awkward.

I really dislike Franklin. Eric Adrian and Eric Franklin sound quite ineffectual, no zip to them.

Eric Francis is nicer, gentle still but Francis is a bit sparkier sounding.

Charlotte120221 · 19/11/2024 13:21

Eric is an old man's name in the UK really - don't know any under the age of about 60.

Adrian is forever tainted by Adrian Mole for me - again it's an older man's name?

Patrick is nice....

Elliott is definitely not an old man's name

housemaus · 19/11/2024 13:37

Not a fan of Adrian - Eric has approached 'cool old man name' status now I think as I've seen a couple of them around recently so I think that's cute. Other E names - Eli or Ernest?

For middles - Adrian is a bit fusty sounding to my ears. Patrick is quite ageless in that I know Patricks of all ages and would be my choice, but doesn't really go with Eric imo.
