Bertie ? Nothing longer that would be his registered name if so any middle name inspo we have a one syllable surname that's Irish

I think it's cute for a baby and I can picture an adult Bertie but just can't picture a teenage Bertie. But my view could be tainted because I'm Irish and the only Bertie I know is the ex Irish taoiseach!

Pomegranatemum · 07/10/2024 20:20

Love it. Was near the top of my boy name list, albeit as a diminutive of Albert.

mrssunshinexxx · 07/10/2024 20:39

@Pomegranatemum what else was on your boy list 😜
I absolutely adore Rocky too I can't decide between the two

@PreggersWithBaby2 😂 it's such a hard decision

I reallyy don't like it , sorry, especially as the full name!

My daughter's history teacher named her child Bertram nickname Bertie and regretted it and ended up changing it

StressedQueen · 07/10/2024 20:59

If you want Bertie though, Albert is perfectly fine and still gives him a full name for later on

OtterOnAPlane · 07/10/2024 21:05

It could be a shortening of Robert, too (Robert is a great name).

Marmiteontoastgirlie · 07/10/2024 21:06

I think call him Albert or Robert as suggested above and nick name Bertie.

ThereIsATInWater · 07/10/2024 21:07

Robert?
Then you/he have a choice,

Bertie
Robbie
Bobby
Bob
Rob

PreggersWithBaby2 · 07/10/2024 21:08

Nothing longer that would be his registered name

Yet in true MN style, people are ignoring the OP and suggesting longer names....

PolaroidPrincess · 07/10/2024 21:09

I really like Bertie. I know one who's about 18 now and that's his full name. Really suits him.

Moreteaandchocolate · 07/10/2024 21:15

I love Albert nn Bertie? Bertie sounds too juvenile for a standalone name for an adult man (to me).

Twoshoesnewshoes · 07/10/2024 21:19

so cute!
maybe something fairly‘plain’ for a middle name
james
john
william
angus
thomas
daniel

Twoshoesnewshoes · 07/10/2024 21:20

oh, personally prefer Bertie to Rocky

mrssunshinexxx · 07/10/2024 21:28

Just to reiterate 😂 it would definitely not be lengthened I can't stand Albert or Robert

BarbaraHoward · 07/10/2024 21:30

Also Irish and my immediate first thought was Aherne which would put me off tbh. That aside it is a lovely name.

OliviaFlaversham · 07/10/2024 21:31

It’s ok when short for something but not ok on its own. It feels too much of a diminutive.

samedifferent · 07/10/2024 21:32

I don't think it a great formal name for an adult honestly.
So if you aren't wanting to have a more formal name as an option in the future I would keep looking.

Deadhouseplant · 07/10/2024 21:33

Bertie is a great name for a dog.

WetBandits · 07/10/2024 21:34

All the Berties I know are dogs. I don’t like it at all, I’m afraid, not even for a dog. It’s very twee.

Same with Rocky.

FriendlyNeighbourhoodAccountant · 07/10/2024 21:35

I think it's awful, sorry. It's a dog's name in my opinion.

TexanBrisket · 07/10/2024 21:40

Don't name a baby, name a man. That's when he will have his name for the longest, and when it will be the most important.

Bertie is much better than Rocky.

eqpi4t2hbsnktd · 07/10/2024 21:46

We know a girl Bertie and it's so cute on her! Not sure what it's short for....

Shoesshoes87 · 07/10/2024 21:51

Bertie Ron
Berite Lee
Bertie Kai
Bertie Sol
Bertie Finn
Bertie Flynn
Bertie Tom

RaiseYourSkinnyFists · 07/10/2024 21:53

I think it's great! Go for it
