Bertie ? Nothing longer that would be his registered name if so any middle name inspo we have a one syllable surname that's Irish

If it's a choice between Bertie or Rocky, then Bertie wins easily.

Not my cup of tea but it's your baby.

He can shorten it to Bert if he likes when he's older.

Anoisagusaris · 07/10/2024 21:56

Former Irish Taoiseach Bertie Ahern or Bertie Wooster is what I think of! 😆

GiveMeVodkaPlease · 07/10/2024 21:56

I know a little girl Bertie which is very cute. Also nice for a boy imo 🙂

abracadabra1980 · 07/10/2024 22:15

Not for a human IMHO. Know two male dogs with the name 🐾

Snugglemonkey · 07/10/2024 22:15

eqpi4t2hbsnktd · 07/10/2024 21:46

We know a girl Bertie and it's so cute on her! Not sure what it's short for....

Roberta probably. Alberta possibly

Deadhouseplant · 07/10/2024 21:33

Bertie is a great name for a dog.

Agreed.

Scutterbug · 07/10/2024 22:16

I like it. I’m not a fan of Rocky though.

ItWasOnAStarryNight · 07/10/2024 22:18

It's a child not a dog. I know of a human Rocky once though and he was a right little shit.

Bestfootfwd · 07/10/2024 22:19

Bertie is great, but Rocky won’t do at all, sorry.

I hope your one syllable Irish surname is not Ahern 😳 & if it is I hope you don't live in Ireland.

It's not for me but then again I doubt you'd like my names.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 07/10/2024 22:22

Not my cup of tea sorry - yes Bertie Carvel is gorge but apart from him I just think “Dirty Bertie” ,which is cute on a toddler but not so great on an older man🤣

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 07/10/2024 22:24

But like a pp, Rocky is definitely all dog (especially thanks to paw patrol which doesn’t seem to be going away)- so if it’s between the two, then stick with Bertie.

KirstenBlest · 07/10/2024 22:27

Bertie is fine @mrssunshinexxx . It's not a name I'd pick but you probably wouldn't pick my DC's names.
If you are only ever going to call him Bertie there's not much point in giving him a longer name.

He might end up being Bert.
Does Bertie sound good with the surname?

Rocky is awful.

ClementineSatsuma · 07/10/2024 22:46

Bertie and Rocky are worlds apart in my head.

Bertie makes me think of the Taoiseach, old Irish men, Aran sweaters

Rocky is cool and young and a bit cheeky. Also, the whole boxer association.

StormingNorman · 07/10/2024 22:56

Bertie is cute and playful so needs to be balanced by something quite strong and traditional. I like

Bertie Liam
Bertie Charles

It would do the lad a favour if you discounted any thing beginning with a J (BJ) or O (BO). He’ll be teased mercilessly otherwise.

Bazinga007 · 07/10/2024 23:43

All I can think of.is Bertie Bassett, sorry.

user1492757084 · 08/10/2024 01:02

I would go with Bert.

Nick name Bertie.

Bertie is too childish for a grown man.

Bert Valentine
Bert Alistair
Bert Charles
Bert Christopher
Bert Bartholomew
Bert Alexander - my fave
Bert Linden
Bert William

DramaAlpaca · 08/10/2024 01:09

Oh dear. I'm so sorry, I think Bertie is a horrible name. I guess we just don't have the same taste.

I like some of the names it's a diminutive of, Albert and Robert in particular, but would have to use them as middle names to avoid the likes of Bertie as a diminutive.

redtrain123 · 08/10/2024 01:12

Sorry, not keen.

shoopshoopdedoo · 08/10/2024 06:08

I like Bertie as a nickname, although I know you’ve said you’d use it as the full name. I personally think it’s cute for a baby but too childish for a grown man. Like the suggestion of Bert, nickname Bertie, if that would be an option?

Bertie is far better than Rocky though!

We know a Charles Haughey in his 20s. 👀

EmberAsh · 08/10/2024 06:18

To me the name Bertie is too whimsical. Better suited to a pet.

CookieMonster28 · 08/10/2024 06:21

I like Bertie!
My DD has a 'nickname' name, I'm all for it!

Sheeparelooseagain · 08/10/2024 07:14

I don't like it as a full name but I prefer it to Rocky.

mrssunshinexxx · 08/10/2024 07:19

@DeireadhFomhair I have no idea who/ what you're talking about so presuming that's a good thing !

Thanks everyone lots to think about
Wow naming my daughters was not this hard
