I like both, but think Matilda Rose flows better

holju · 05/10/2024 09:36

I think Matilda works better with Rose, but eitheis fine

AgainandagainandagainSS · 05/10/2024 09:37

Both are vile and Tilly is just Silly. Fine on a cocker spaniel, not a grown woman.
Rose however is a lovely name.

shoopshoopdedoo · 05/10/2024 09:45

Anything but Ottilie!

Matilda is nice. Rose is lovely.

Moreteaandchocolate · 05/10/2024 10:31

Matilda Rose 😊

Liv999 · 05/10/2024 10:35

Matilda is really nice, Ottilie is awful

Frozenflake · 05/10/2024 10:36

There are sooooo many Ottilies so I would say Matilda

curiousS · 05/10/2024 10:48

I'm not keen on either l. Every Matilda I've known has been a naughty little madam!

toastedcrumpetsrock · 05/10/2024 11:07

Too many Matildas I would go for Ottilie - Tilly is a great nn

Miley1967 · 05/10/2024 11:09

I like Matilda and particularly Tilly for short. Ottilie just seems to be one of those faddy names at the moment.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 05/10/2024 11:14

Matilda with the diminutive Tilly. It’s not a particular fave of mine but she might appreciate the Dahl book when younger and it’s cool that she was a famous tough Empress. Matilda has a strong sound and also sounds a bit more classic than Ottilie which is newly trendy (and is nice enough pronounced the European way but still might get “Ottily” half the time here).

I suppose you could also consider Talia/Thalia? - might be a bit more of a stretch but very nice imo

ItWasOnAStarryNight · 05/10/2024 11:17

Ottillie is ridiculous. Can't understand how it's become so popular

ItWasOnAStarryNight · 05/10/2024 11:19

Otterly 🦦 gives you a great excuse to use the emoji though.

Rose 🌹🥀 has 2 emojis so even better

Noodlesnotstrudels · 05/10/2024 11:29

I think Ottilie is going to date really badly as it's come from nowhere and now there are loads of babies with that name. Matilda is definitely more timeless.

ginasevern · 05/10/2024 11:34

To be fair they are both wildly overused but Ottilie is the worst.

Firsttimebabymummy · 05/10/2024 11:49

Not keen on either but would pick Matilda if I had to choose

BoleynMemories13 · 05/10/2024 11:58

I'm not a great fan of the name Matilda (although, as a lover of classic children's literature, I appreciate the literary reference).

It's far preferable to Ottilie though. Although Matilda is statistically more popular, it's quite steadily so. Whereas Ottilie has risen from absolutely nowhere, straight into the top 100 recently, and I think it will become a really faddy trend associated with the 2020s as a result.

Matilda Rose is nice enough. Personally I wouldn't shorten to Tilly but each to their own. She'll definitely appreciate having a full name to fall back on when she's older rather than just being Tilly, which is quite infantile.

Snoken · 05/10/2024 12:14

Don’t love Ottilie. Matilda is nice but unexciting. Tilly sounds cute. Tilda on the other hand I love. It’s a nice, strong name.

Agree. I've never met a child called that but I'd definitely raise any eyebrow (inwardly obviously!)

Matilda is definitely the nicest

Cas112 · 05/10/2024 12:18

Matilda

Sheeparelooseagain · 05/10/2024 12:28

Matilda. I prefer Tilda to Tilly as a nickname.

Bigearringsbigsmile · 05/10/2024 12:31

Matilda is better than ottillie by a country mile but its a bit meh.

Anything but Ottilie!

Matilda is nice. Rose is lovely.

Same for me , Rose is lovely ,elegant classic and not commonly used, suits any style as an adult too.
Ottilie makes me cringe

Nicebloomers · 05/10/2024 13:00

Love Ottillie. Not sure why it’s considered faddy as it was high on my list 15 years ago for my daughter. Plenty of little Otto’s around too. Matilda I’ve heard consistently for the past 20 years so would assume more popular if that’s an issue. I have a soft spot for Matilde. Both are pretty but I prefer Ottillie.

SatinHeart · 05/10/2024 13:03

Matilda Rose is nice.

Ottilie is awful.
