I really love it.
Is it the pregnancy hormones? Or is it as great as I think it is?

Duckie is a nickname for Donald?

fallenbranches · 04/10/2024 21:26

No it's not cute, sorry. I hate my name and really resent my parents for not thinking about it properly as we have to live with that name for the rest of our lives! It's not a fashion accessory

Have you been watching the land before time?

Honestly it's my favourite film.
I did veto littlefoot quite early but I suppose I could consider peatry. OBVIOUSLY can't go with Sarah.

I live near South Derbyshire, "me duck" is a common thing to say. "You alright me duck?" or as my S.Derbs uncle once said to a server at a Spanish hotel buffet that had a big veggie section "is this bacon, duck?" and she replied "no, its bacon"!

Duckie is sort of a more affectionate version of that so no. That said, always had a crush on him in Pretty in Pink.

RedToothBrush · 04/10/2024 21:29

'Fuck a Duck'. Teenagers can be horrible.

scalt · 04/10/2024 21:30

I remember a Chinese boy in my class called Duc, pronounced "Dook". But Duckie - no.

IhadFeralToddlers · 04/10/2024 21:33

Call your kid whatever you like.
My DS is friends with a kid called Dixie and I also met a women on a work conference who decided her name was going to be Toffee. I met another woman who had renamed herself after her rescue dog, so they were both called Malory.
I don't care what anyone's called, so long as I have a good chance of pronouncing it correctly and not embarrassing myself.

I say why limit yourself, you’ve got spike as an option? (Although he’s a bit slow isn’t he, so maybe not that) what about chompers from the sequel? Or the most normal, Ruby?

no YOU watch the TV series now 👀

Spike is genuinely on my list. A close second to Duckie - I'd forgotten he was also a land before time dude. I wonder how spike would go down on Mumsnet I feel I should put it out there and find out....

As some other posters have said, @magicstar2020, duckie is a lovely nickname, but not a good choice as the baby’s actual name.

If the baby is a girl, could you call her Jemima, after Jemima Puddleduck, from the Beatrix Potter books - then ducky would be a sweet nickname for her as a baby, but as she grew up, she would have a lovely name to grow into.

PyongyangKipperbang · 04/10/2024 21:44

Spike is vastly better than Duckie

Well imo yes it is. Which one would have you raising you eyebrows higher?

I didnt say it was good, just that it was better.

ThePenguinIsDrunk · 04/10/2024 21:53

As you've already realised: no, not as a birth certificate name. As a nickname - go for your life!

Pickledpicklez · 04/10/2024 21:57

Macadamia20 · 04/10/2024 21:48

It's not though is it!

Yes but not because spike is a viable alternative but because ducky set the bar so low

ny vote is for ruby the oviraptor

Anon9839399720 · 04/10/2024 21:58

Hahahahhahahhahahaha no you can not.

Superhansrantowindsor · 04/10/2024 21:59

Probably the worst name suggestion I have ever seen. Can you imagine him in high school and the teacher calling their name out? It’s a cute name for a small pet but not an appropriate name for a human being.

Juicymango · 04/10/2024 22:02

No.
