Some people will liken it to the dish used for science cultures but it is a legitimate name.

Honestly, duckie just makes me think of a rubber duck. It's not a nice cute name OR nickname.

Spike is what you'd name a pet.

Obviously, your child, your choice, but is there a reason you're considering these names? Are you trying to find a unique name that no one else has? Just because it's cute doesn't make it appropriate.

Just remember that your child grows into an adult, I doubt they would appreciate having a cutesy baby (or pet) name

You’re naming a human, not a dog. Would you like to be called Duckie or Spike? Picking silly names is so self-indulgent - it’s your child who has to walk in on their first day of secondary school and introduce themselves as Spike, not you. Either change your own name by deed poll or get a puppy and call it Spike, but give your child an actual human name.

As in, "Ey up me duck"?
