I really love it.
Is it the pregnancy hormones? Or is it as great as I think it is?

Only if you live in Nottingham I believe.

DisabledDemon · 04/10/2024 20:57

Really? You really need to ask?

However, here it is ... No. Unless, of course, you want to set your child up for a lifetime of bullying and subsequent therapy.

Quack

MaisieMacabe · 04/10/2024 20:59

Well it's no worse than "Sonny" which is weirdly popular round these parts.

Ilovesandwiches · 04/10/2024 21:00

nooooo, she will be picked on forever for this :(

80smonster · 04/10/2024 21:00

If it makes you feel better OP, we know quite a few Fox’s and Wolf’s, pretty standard names where we live.

kolalumps · 04/10/2024 21:00

It’s too familiar and off-putting. It’s like calling a person honey, or sweetie.

Imagine the name tag -

Hi, my name is Duckie

People will take this piss, chuck the job application in the bin thinking it’s a prank.

Covidwoes · 04/10/2024 21:01

This can't be a serious question. Surely. 😂

Anastomosisrex · 04/10/2024 21:03

It's one of those ones that would sound so cute with a toddler, and possibly carried off by a sufficiently debonaire and tough middle aged man, but when you start to envisage a large teen boy having to live with it? And a girl.... I'm afraid kids will go straight to the rhyming possibilities there.

Ductavia is beautiful, with Duckie as a nickname.

Only if she's a cartoon character.

Scentedjasmin · 04/10/2024 21:06

You could give your child a normal name, but relocate to The Midlands and then your child will be called Duckie permanently. Just don't actually call them that and then move there otherwise your child will be permanently confused.

Yuckyyuckyuckity · 04/10/2024 21:08

I prefer Goosey.

tonyhawks23 · 04/10/2024 21:08

I think its lovely! I'm the only one I see! Drakes allowed! And Kitty, both of which I also love. Id call her Duchess with Duckie for nickname I think.

SeatonCarew · 04/10/2024 21:10

You can't imagine it being murmured in a moment of passion, can you?

(Nor does it pass my other test, could you put Prince or Princess in front of it?)

That's who I immediately thought of - but I'm pretty sure that even in the film, his real name was Philip and Duckie was a nickname.

Aww really, I don't remember that. Awful name but I feel strangely disappointed that Duckie was actually called Philip, feel almost cheated 😆

SoNiceToComeHomeTo · 04/10/2024 21:13

This must be a joke, but a rather good one. Thank you, Mummy Mallard.

PadstowGirl · 04/10/2024 21:14

Well it's quite a nice regional term of endearment in the midlands. Be grateful you arent in parts of Lancashire or you might be naming your child "Cock".

bridgetreilly · 04/10/2024 21:16

How about Pet? Or Luv?

SerafinasGoose · 04/10/2024 21:18

And even he was really called 'Phil ...'

Can I call my child Duckie?
Emmanuelll · 04/10/2024 21:19

Noooo

NiftyKoala · 04/10/2024 21:19

If you do this school will be a nightmare for your child. Put your child first and don't make your child's life difficult.

Lovelyone1 · 04/10/2024 21:19

As a teacher it's not the craziest name I've heard
It's kinda cute lol ( . ❛ ᴗ ❛ . )

CheshireCat1 · 04/10/2024 21:20

Henry V111 called Ann Boleyn’s breasts duckies.

BruFord · 04/10/2024 21:21

I suppose the question is would you like to be called Duckie? As a teenager, would you have liked to introduce yourself to people as Duckie?

I think it’s a cute nickname, but I wouldn’t use it as a baby’s official name. Chose something else and refer to them as Duckie at home.

Pickledpicklez · 04/10/2024 21:24

Have you been watching the land before time?
