I really love it.
Is it the pregnancy hormones? Or is it as great as I think it is?

@Wheelz46 I was thinking that too, and I love the film so much, but I was always Team Blaine, even though he was a wet blanket

Team Blaine here too, I was a huge fan of Andrew Mccarthy though, loved him in Mannequin too.

letthemalldoone · 04/10/2024 19:56

Of course you can't and well you know that! Unless you want them to have the absolute piss taken out of them every day of their life!

ReadingInTheRain583 · 04/10/2024 19:57

Duckie, if nothing else, is opening things right up for typos of dickie and fuckie.

Good god no.

This

The OP isn't coming back. Years ago a student acquaintance said she really believed that people should have to sit exams before being allowed to procreate. I thought at the time it was a harsh attitude. Then I see stupid ideas like this and think, maybe she had a point after all. I know in some countries a Registrar can refuse some names. Duckie is just so stupid and ctuel.

wwjalme · 04/10/2024 20:01

It's either pregnancy hormones or you're on glue.

No, just no.

Strictlymad · 04/10/2024 20:01

There was a great thread the other day cakes something like what did you almost call your kid but now realise it as silly preggo hormones, people had things like mango on there, now realising it wasn’t a sensible choice. I think you would thin the same about duckie, keep it as a nickname

maudelovesharold · 04/10/2024 20:01

Gently, as they say, op, you may not quite be in your right mind atm!
Great as a nickname though. My late Mum used to call ds1 ducky diamond when he was very little!

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 04/10/2024 20:02

I think there was a fashion model called Duckie - but it was a nickname. It actually makes sense as a nickname for something like Daphne (because of Daffy Duck), and is a cute nickname in a posh sounding/ public school sort of way. Like Bunny, Badger etc.

Do not use it as a given name though imo - especially if she goes to the local comp, I can see her being called “Fuckie” instead (or “Chucky” if she’s luckier).

Kitkat1523 · 04/10/2024 20:02

just no

Loub1987 · 04/10/2024 20:02

LBFseBrom · 04/10/2024 20:03

Please don't. If you have a girl, you could call her, "Jemima", though.

Can you see your child becoming Prime Minster with that name? If your answer's No, then don't use it!

Newoldnameplease · 04/10/2024 20:04

My friend wanted to name her daughter Velvet. If I recall correctly, her DH's response was 'Fuck, no'.

Please don't call your child Duckie.

RedHelenB · 04/10/2024 20:06

Call them Duckie as a pet name but christen them dobething more mainstream for their sake.

Aspecialplaceinhell · 04/10/2024 20:06

Are you rich and an aristocrat? Maybe!
Normal and not wealthy beyond our wildest dreams? Definitely not.

DuckonaBike · 04/10/2024 20:06

Speaking as a duck, I often address my children as “duckie”, but they have actual real names as well. I would recommend this.

oakleaffy · 04/10/2024 20:07

Oooh Duckie ! Look at the lallies on him!

Years ago a friend who worked in Maternity asked a very young new mum what name she would give her baby, the mum answered Kyumi (not sure of the spelling). My friend said That's an interesting name, I've never heard it before. New mum replied It's the name of a deodorant on an advert on TV and I really like it!

ChampagneLassie · 04/10/2024 20:08

I toyed with calling a son Poseidon, luckily we had girls and my OH absolutely vetoed it. But I thought it was a great idea. We don’t even live near the sea or have any maritime connections

Duckie dobething, there's a jazz singer in the making right there!

Getonwitit · 04/10/2024 20:08

Don't be bloody ridiculous.
