Struggling to find a baby name we love except this one

Thoughts please

I don't like it. I think it depends on the surname too.

Weirdly dental. Not a fan.

I know of one, who must be mid-30s by now.
A lovely confident girl.
She was affectionately nn Brontosaurus but I would buy some really nice brontosaurus toys for her. I think Jellycat does one.

That’s a lovely name. It has strength and beauty about it. I thought of the Brontë sisters at first. They were genius level writers so you have a great cultural connection there as well.

Its easy to spell and say and has a nice ring to it.

its a south african name but the 3 i have met irl are all lovely women and i have a real soft spot for the name

I'm 50/50 how I feel about it, I keep saying it and it sounds more masculine in my head the more I say it at the moment... then again I know of a Bryony (f) and I think that's a nice name, but I only know of 1 in real life..

It's unusual, even if slightly masculine sounding (for me) but I think it it's a name that would grow on me.
I actually like Darcy for a boy but I'd not be brave enough to name a boy Darcy as I know there are far too many Darcey/Darcy/Darcie girls

Totally try hard to have it as a first name.

It’s a sweet name and I have met an adult Bronte and she was lovely.

However, it’s a bit like calling your child Tolstoy, without having read a single one of his books (especially if you use the umlat). Everyone for the rest of her life will ask her ‘oh, like Charlotte?” or ‘like the sisters?’. It’s a bizarre choice to just choose it for its sound without at least reading the books to see if you like the association she’ll be stuck with. In the UK even more that in other countries as they are so well studied.

Some Bronte sisters associations are positive, some not so much.

Love it. It was on our list.

I have found that MN name threads have people leaning towards standard Christian names which is not the culture I grew up in or live in so I sort of skip comments where they they suggest those names as an alternative because they are not my taste bar a few.

Shame. But most people will have.

People will always be saying ''What?'',.. ''What did you say?'' ...''What's the name?'' etc. and you will have to spell it out every time.

Bronwen. "Wyn" is a male suffix (like Gwen and Gwyn)

Go for it. I used to work with one. She was great, and impossibly cool. She had a very unusual surname and pulled off the whole name really well.
