Middle name will be Catherine Victoria

Alice! Never Alys that's daft and she'll spend her life correcting people, who'll internally be rolling their eyes!

SkaneTos · 22/08/2024 19:37

I think they are both nice names, but I am not at all familiar with the Alys-spelling. I am not from the UK, though. Is it pronounced similarly to Alice?

Alice! Never Alys that's daft and she'll spend her life correcting people, who'll internally be rolling their eyes!

Ummm. Unless she’s using the Welsh spelling.

LlynTegid · 22/08/2024 19:39

Alice.

Please don't condemn your daughter to a lifetime of correcting people.

Arlanymor · 22/08/2024 19:39

Alys is more commonly associated with Wales and France, so unless the other two names have similar associations it might look a bit odd. So Alice in that case. Or Alys Catrin… we don’t have a Welsh version of Victoria as it’s Latin.

I don’t know, my name is Welsh and my 45 years of explaining it to people it has led to some very interesting conversations, particularly about Welsh history.

Speaking of names, I drove through Eryri earlier today!

HellonHeels · 22/08/2024 19:43

I worked with an Alys and loved her name. I think it's really pretty.

nonmerci99 · 22/08/2024 19:46

Alys. It’s beautiful.

MoosakaWithFries · 22/08/2024 19:50

Alys is beautiful.

NoHeavenNoMore · 22/08/2024 19:51

Alys 😊

Same 😊

Strawberrycheesecake7 · 22/08/2024 19:54

Both are lovely. I prefer Alys personally and it's on my list as a middle name. I am Welsh though. I think if you don't live in Wales the Alice spelling might be better for a first name otherwise she'll constantly be correcting people.

AntsMarching · 22/08/2024 20:00

I wanted to use Alys (husband is Welsh), but we live in England and I didn't want her to spend her life correcting the spelling (like I have to do with my name. Alys is beautiful!

Alys is the Welsh spelling so not daft.

xyz111 · 22/08/2024 20:03

I don't like Alys. I'd be wondering if I was saying it right.

SouthgatesWaistcoat · 22/08/2024 20:06

Don't use Alys unless you or your partner are Welsh- why use the welsh spelling if you're not welsh?!

Els1e · 22/08/2024 20:08

Alice. Unless you're Welsh

musicalfrog · 22/08/2024 20:09

Alys is soooooooo pretentious.

BehindTheSequinsandStilettos · 22/08/2024 20:15

Alyce?! Wink

Dithercats · 22/08/2024 20:17

If in England use Alice.
If in Wales use Alys.

It's said exactly the same so depends on your country surely

Rory17384949 · 22/08/2024 20:18

Are you Welsh? Alys is the Welsh spelling so unless you're living in Wales spell it Alice

Anitapu · 22/08/2024 20:19

my daughters middle name is ALYS.
her father is welsh.

Changethetoner · 22/08/2024 20:21

How about Alis. Short for Alistair.

PurBal · 22/08/2024 20:28

Alys if there is a Welsh connection. Otherwise Alice.
