Casey or Kayce?

We’re expecting a baby boy in the next few weeks, our first and are stuck on the name. We both love Casey but can’t agree on the spelling, I think Casey he thinks Kayce. We’re at a stand-off and need some input but are not sharing the name with friends and family yet.

For context we both like the gender neutral feel to the name, are very aware it’s an ‘American’ name and not as traditional in the UK for a boy. But we’re very open to other similar vibe names if anyone has any suggestions!

I'd say that a good 50% of people will pronounce Kayce as "case".

yes, I agree. I would say Kayce as ‘case’ and Casey as Cay-see.

This, I'd definitely go with Casey, my brain reads Kayce as "case".

Or could you go somewhere in the middle with Kacey?

TheRosesAreInBloom · 17/08/2024 10:12

As above.

Yes this, go with Casey less faffing when people are reading it for years to come.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 17/08/2024 10:13

Definitely Casey. I agree with pp that Kayce looks like it should be pronounced 'Case'.

NuffSaidSam · 17/08/2024 10:13

Definitely Casey. Kayce is terrible (and would be pronounced Case).

Casey, I think it looks more girly with a K. Love the baby boy name Casey

Due to not reading OP properly I assumed that was how it was pronounced, didn’t realise OP was presenting two different spellings of same name, thought they were two different ones (Kay see and Case).

saraclara · 17/08/2024 10:14

Kayce, as well as being open to mispronunciation, is pretty awful.

It's also borderline girly.

Iwontlethtesungodownonme · 17/08/2024 10:14

Another who would pronounce Kayce as case.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 17/08/2024 10:14

Met a KC twice. Might not be allowed though.

BridgetJonesBigPants · 17/08/2024 10:18

Casey. Kayce looks like it's pronounced case. Kacey looks very feminine.

I'd say more like 90%+

RaspberryWhirls · 17/08/2024 10:19

Casey if you must use the name. Cassius with Casey as a nn?

I really don't like it but that's just my personal opinion.

itsgettingweird · 17/08/2024 10:19

Casey or Kacey.

I know both. Both get pronounced properly.

Agree Kayce is "case".

user68712226 · 17/08/2024 10:20

I’m assuming your DH watches Yellowstone. I watch all tv with subtitles and even though I know the characters name “Kayce” is pronounced “Casey” I still read it my head every single time as “case”

itsgettingweird · 17/08/2024 10:21

Oh lord I didn't read properly.

Casey for a boy.

The Kacey I know is a girl!

TerfTalking · 17/08/2024 10:21

Definitely Casey, Kayce IMO is awful and sounds like a “made up spelling” name.

Casey is a good, solid name and whilst not unheard of it is uncommon, I like it.

Agree. Casey is low class.

Can't you give the child a dignified name and use Casey as a nickname? Think of its future in the workplace.

JanefromLondon1 · 17/08/2024 10:25

I don't like the name at all but if you had to use it Casey is better.

Sluj · 17/08/2024 10:26

More than 50% of people will think Kayce is Case.

Casey only works if your surname is Jones - or am I showing my age? Good theme tune though 🤣
