Casey or Kayce?

JLE35 · 17/08/2024 10:02

We’re expecting a baby boy in the next few weeks, our first and are stuck on the name. We both love Casey but can’t agree on the spelling, I think Casey he thinks Kayce. We’re at a stand-off and need some input but are not sharing the name with friends and family yet.

For context we both like the gender neutral feel to the name, are very aware it’s an ‘American’ name and not as traditional in the UK for a boy. But we’re very open to other similar vibe names if anyone has any suggestions!

When did op ask for opinions on the name. Also what’s with the “chavvy and “lower class name” comments stop being so bloody snobby

Needmorelego · 17/08/2024 10:30

Casey definitely looks the "correct" spelling.
(ignore the snobs)

I'd say that a good 50% of people will pronounce Kayce as "case".

This. Even when you see that it’s supposed to say “Kay-see” it just looks so try-hard.
Casey isn’t a hugely common name and he won’t encounter too many others, so why try to make it even more unusual/complicated.

muffledvoice · 17/08/2024 10:33

Personally I prefer Kaci

shoopshoopdedoo · 17/08/2024 10:34

Definitely Casey!

I also read Kayce as “case”, and I think I’d presume it was a girls name.

ChildlessCatLadiesRuleOK · 17/08/2024 10:35

Tell your partner if it was good enough for Casey Jones, it's good enough for your son.

RosesAndHellebores · 17/08/2024 10:35

Casey without question. Personally I'd prefer John but each to their own.

Kayce did make me smile though. If the lad grows up to be a barrister and takes silk, he'd be Kayce Surname, KC. Always working on a case no doubt.

No man would want to be called that 😄

I agree, it sounds like Barbie's little sister.

SonicTheHodgeheg · 17/08/2024 10:42

Casey makes better sense. Kayce looks like it’s pronounced Case. If he likes the K at the beginning then Kacey or Kasey (second one looks more logical) is probably what he’s after.

CandyLeBonBon · 17/08/2024 10:42

What about Cody? I'd read Kayce as 'case' as well, and to me, Casey seems more of a girl's name (mainly because of Newt's doll, in Aliens tbh) but that's my own personal association. If you really want the name I agree tjat Kacey/Kasey might be better but you'll get forever saying "Casey with a K"

JLE35 · 17/08/2024 10:43

Thanks for the responses. In answer to questions/points my husband is a little on the dyslexic side and he automatically said he’d spell it Kayce i.e Kay-ce and would read Casey as Cassie. I’ve said I think the majority would read Kayce as Case and prefer the traditional spelling so really helpful to see thoughts on this.

Kasey and Kacey are basically girls names.

Mawak · 17/08/2024 10:45

Casey is generally a girls name in the UK I think?

Kayce might be pronounced as Case.

I agree with a pp that Cody would be a better option.

MyStylish40s · 17/08/2024 10:46

I just can’t imagine a grown man with a name spelt Kayce. Poor bloke.

Blueuggboots · 17/08/2024 10:46

Absolutely not Kayce!!
Casey if you absolutely have to.

Izzynohopanda · 17/08/2024 10:48

Casey

Kayce is ‘trying too hard/made up’ and looks like a girls name to me.

PolaroidPrincess · 17/08/2024 10:51

How about following our Dear Neighbours and just go for KC?

Definitely don't go with his opinion on spelling then! Grin

Sugarnspicenallthingsnaice · 17/08/2024 10:56

'A little on the dyslexic side'? What does that even mean? He either has dyslexia or he doesn't. Or is it code for being barely literate?

Just tell him he's wrong. His interpretation of how certain letters should be pronounced is not correct. I'm sure this can't be the only time it's happened to him, it sounds like he would spell most things incorrectly from what you've said.

Casey is a cute name, reminds me of the old Johnny Cash song, The Ballad Of Casey Jones!

StellaCruella · 17/08/2024 10:59

Casey 100%

Brainstorm23 · 17/08/2024 11:03

Kayce is a total tragedeigh.
