Need the most unusual/out there boys names you can think of

Baby due Jan 2025. Already have a girl's name picked - don't want to say what as it's too outing if anyone knows me on here, it's an unusual rarely used name but lovely and everyone we've told really likes it and we are very happy with it.

We can't agree on a boy's name at all. I already have a DS (previous partner) with quite an unusual name but still in the top 100 but my DH definitely likes more "out there" names!
Give me your favourite unique boy names for inspiration please! We've looked at thousands of names on lists and just can't find one we like for a boy whatsoever. I know we have plenty of time (and might not even have a boy) but with my son I had his name picked before I was ever even pregnant so I'm struggling not knowing!

Please think carefully when giving your child a unique, out there name. I feel some parents do this to make themselves look cool or alternative but don't think about how the child might feel. I'm not saying you are OP, just some parents.

We chose an Indian name for our son (his dad is Indian). We spent months choosing the perfect name that has a beautiful meaning related to nature. My son is 11 and absolutely hates his name!! He doesn't mind having an Indian name. There are lots of Asian kids at his school so it's normal to have an Indian name. He just hates the fact it's out there and "weird". Not a week goes by when he doesn't ask us why we chose that name! We now have to use a different nickname for him and he said he'll change his name legally when he's 18!

So be careful OP. Many kids don't like to stand out.

I went through a phase of hating my name at that age and now I love it (not a super unusual name).I think it’s fairly common as kids are coming to terms with their own identities. Fwiw I love unusual names, there is so much hate for it on mumsnet. I find common names instantly forgettable to be honest and really struggle to remember them. Also I think life is so multi cultural these days especially if you end up living in a city or working in a profession, you end up working with people from all over the world, so there’s no such thing as an unusual name anyway.

If you had twins they could be Biggleswade & Basingstoke.

I’m slightly sympathetic to the posters saying don’t go too way out with a name. Though I understand having something that feels like “ your own” can be nice in a name.

However if you really want left field and distinctive, how about Vespasian.?

"I love River, Indigo and Ezra" - do you consider those to be unusual / out there names? I thought they were too ordinary to even suggest to you.

TheBirdintheCave · 10/08/2024 16:29

@namedilemma24 Ezra is currently number 46 and on the rise.

Calliopespa · 10/08/2024 19:46

I know generally they're quite popular, not sure about Indigo though. I've never met anyone with those names though or with children named that. I like them, doesn't mean I'd use them though and DH hates all three anyway (!)

What's your DH's preferred name?

He wants Lazarus, which in itself I don't really have an issue with I like the name and think it sounds nice but I'm just worried it's a bit too much

Anything but Lazarus.
I'd bully the shit out of a kid called Lazarus.
And the shortening 'Laz'
