I think it could be a lovely name ( named after the star and the Latin meaning female warrior) and could be called Belle for short )

we will have to agree to disagree

CowGirl19 · 29/07/2024 11:58

Belle is lovely - but sorry Bellatrix just makes me think of the Harry Potter character and so personally I think that dates the name.

Sugarlily · 29/07/2024 11:58

Is this a joke?

wandawaves · 29/07/2024 11:59

No.

Mums73 · 29/07/2024 12:02

Ok so I just realised about Harry Potter but I really want and old name so I was thinking viola ( like Shakespeare) or Minerva ( oh god I’m just naming hp characters at this point ) I am honestly not trying too I had I great grandmother named Minerva and I could call her M for short

I would only think of the Harry Potter character

and i reckon you’re called something like… Emma

AlexanderArnold · 29/07/2024 12:03

I know a little Beatrix and it reminds me of that! But the pronunciation Belle-A-Trix is cumbersome and Bella-Trix isn't correct. So I think I'd pass. Also maybe a bit too Asterix. Bellatrix would be his pretty and pugnacious pal.

IneedAbiggerWindchime · 29/07/2024 12:04

Well, it's a cool name, but not after Harry Potter.

Sugarlily · 29/07/2024 12:04

Viola is a beautiful name

pinkyredrose · 29/07/2024 12:04

It's a gorgeous name!

OccasionalHope · 29/07/2024 12:05

Beatrix is nice. So is Viola.

SonicTheHodgeheg · 29/07/2024 12:06

Minerva is also a Harry Potter name - I would find a site with a list of characters because it sounds like you could fond some inspiration there. At least Minerva is a good person this time

TheCadoganArms · 29/07/2024 12:07

Get Professor Gilderoy Lockhart to perform a global memory charm and then you can use the name without any Harry Potter association.

AlexanderArnold · 29/07/2024 12:07

I do like Minerva. If that's the sort of name you're after what about Athene or Athena? Xanthe? Iris? Hero? In Greece, Ariadne is still popular despite the connotations, and Juno similarly here.

HappierTimesAhead · 29/07/2024 12:08

Makes me think of a drag queen

Mums73 · 29/07/2024 12:08

I LOVE Athena I would like Alexandra but my wife is called Alexis

AzureAnt · 29/07/2024 12:10

Please don't. My neighbours cat is called Bellatrix

Abawaba123 · 29/07/2024 12:11

Bellatrix is too strongly associated with Harry Potter imo - and a very evil character! But minerva is a classic name, hood in its own right and not too associated with the books.

whichfan · 29/07/2024 12:11

there’s something very S&M / Domanstrix about bellatrix

Cocothecoconut · 29/07/2024 12:11

Think of the kid as a teenager in high school or adult (trying to get a job) and see if you still like the name

RareLemur · 29/07/2024 12:16

I think it has a very strong Harry Potter association which you would need to consider.
If you intend on calling your DD Belle, are there other options that would you like equally without having the association. Isabelle, for example?

toastofthetown · 29/07/2024 12:20

I really like Minerva.

AreYouShittingMe · 29/07/2024 12:23

Minerva is the name of one of my favourite pubs, so that would be a no from me I'm afraid.
And a no for Bellatrix too.
I really like Viola though

BoobyDazzler · 29/07/2024 12:26

I think Minerva is absolutely beautiful and I actually don’t mind Bellatrix but I wouldn’t use it due to HP… Bellatrix Lestrage was a massive bitch!
