Lukia or Lucia

What do you think about these two names? I like the pronunciation 'Loo-KEE-a,' but does it sound weird in England?

I haven't heard that pronunciation. The Lucias I know are Loo chee ah.

Lucia is pronounced Lou-chee-ah

And Lukia sounds like Leukemia to me. Plus it looks ugly.

Lucia is Lu-chee-ah in Italy, or Lu-see-ah in Spanish speaking countries (to my knowledge).

Lu-kee-ah sounds too much like IKEA to me! Or, as above, leukaemia. Definitely not what I'd want my child's name associated with.

Yes. It's a made up girl's name based on Luke.

Lucia is better, whether Loo-CHEE-a (my default) or Loo-SEE-a.

Lukia would mean a lifetime of having to correct people. Be considerate and don't inflict that on your child.

It's looCHEEa or LooSEEa or even LooSHa like the place but never ever LuKEEa which is odd

It's Lucy-a, Loo-see-a, Looth-ee-a, Loosha, Lootch-ee-a, Lootseea depending on where you are.
It sounds weird here in a part of the UK that isn't England.

Anyway, not a fan of ‘unique’ variations that will never be spelled or said correctly without explanation.

I don’t usually comment on baby name threads but this one made me laugh!! Lucia, pronounced correctly, is a lovely name.

If I heard Lukia I'd probably assume a continental boy's name, not a girl's name, and I don't think it looks or sounds very nice so wouldn't go for.

Ikea (Eye-Lee-ah) sounds prettier than Lukia

I think hard-core Welsh might spell it Lwsïa, or stick to the lovely Welsh version, Lleucu.

Kia as a standalone name might work (but...it's a car). Luisa/Louisa are beautiful alternatives.

Ah ok. I'm not quite sure - do you mean that loo-KEE-a is a recognised Welsh pronunciation of Lucia, or that there's an actual Welsh version of the name 'Lucia' which is pronounced that way? Or just that that's probably how a Welsh speaker might pronounce the name Lucia if they came across it?

They wouldn't pronounce it like that anyway since 'u' isn't pronounced 'oo' in Welsh.

It would be more like Lick-ee-a.
