What do you think about these two names? I like the pronunciation 'Loo-KEE-a,' but does it sound weird in England?

Where did I argue? People asked about the origin of the name, and I answered. That's it.

I wouldn't pronounce Lukia LooKEEah, I'd presume it's LOOkeeah. Kind of like if you're comparing Lukes, and you're saying this Luke is Luke-ier than that Luke 😆

I know someone professionally called Sandra who insists on the name being pronounced with a short 'a', as in sand.

Most people still say 'sarn-dra', as in 'barn'. I try to avoid saying her name at all because I feel silly if I use her preferred pronunciation.

You don't want a lifetime of that.

Sand-ra would be the recognised pronunciation in the north of England, the US (eg Sandra Bullock), all Spanish and Portuguese speaking countries, and probably a lot more that I don't know about. Hardly an eccentric pronunciation.

What? I grew up in the Midlands, lived in the north for several years, and since then have been a southerner for a few decades. And I've never heard Sarn-dra. I've had friends, colleagues and acquaintances in all those areas, called Sandra. Always Sand-ra.

I'm of the the demographic for having Sandras in my life, and never come across Sarn-dra.

I am an RP speaker, living near Manchester...I've never heard anyone say "sarndra" - how odd!

If you go to the beach, do you walk on the "sarnd"?

Do you eat "sarndwiches"?

Do you call Sandy from Grease and Sandy the dog from Annie, "Sarndy"?

Maybe in your accent, you do this - but for the vast majority of the rest of the world, Sandra has a short "a" sound as in "apple" rather than a long "ah" sound as in "architect", not a long one. Your colleague isn't unreasonable to want her nane pronounced correctly. If you can say "apple" and "atlas" without saying "arple" and "artlas" you can say your poor colleague's name the way she'd like it to be said.

All the Sandras I know are Sand-ra. Some are known as Sandy.
I suppose @hopsalong says that as Sarn-dy.

Sandra is pronounced as in sand, with a short A. I know a few.
