Thoughts on Galilea

Pronounced "Gal-il-ey-ah" (i.e. a girl name version of Galilee, as in the Sea of Galilee. Like the female version of Galileo).

Expecting my second child and completely stumped for names this time. Turns out I used one of the only names I actually liked on my first child and now I can hardly think of anything that sparks joy. The first child's name is Biblical, recognisable as a well-known name, but not overly common these days.

I like Galilea, but it's very unusual in English speaking countries. I believe it's more common in Mexico but we have no links to Mexico.

What do you think of it?

In the uk everyone will think of the Queen song bohemian rhapsody?

ComfyBoobs · 17/07/2024 21:56

Galilea Figaro

Crackwillow · 17/07/2024 21:57

Just my thoughts about Bohemian Rhapsody. So therefore it's a no.

CockerMum · 17/07/2024 22:00

Absolutely not

BluPeony · 17/07/2024 22:01

What is your other child called?

XDownwiththissortofthingX · 17/07/2024 22:03

Beelzebub has a devil put aside for meeeeeee!

It's pretty and meaningful, but think there will be issues with spelling.

CherrySocks · 17/07/2024 22:05

The name in Bohemian Rhapsody is Galileo (the astronomer) not Galilea.
It did make me think of it though, to be honest.

SisSuffragette · 17/07/2024 22:10

Against the grain here but I think its very pretty and it brought to mind the bible before the Queen song for me

AntParade · 17/07/2024 22:14

Yeah people are going to sing Queen at her forever. Her friends parents are going to laugh about it behind closed doors. She'll resent you for it.

midlifeattheoasis · 17/07/2024 22:15

Just dont

Brexile · 17/07/2024 22:21

I think it's pretty, but if it reminds people of an embarrassingly dreadful pop song then it's probably not the right choice. How about Galatea?

Were you thinking about Galilee?

Haveyougotallnight · 17/07/2024 22:23

Queen song instantly

whoscoatsthatjacket2012 · 17/07/2024 22:25

Sorry I also thought of Queen

Firsttimebabymummy · 17/07/2024 22:41

Sorry I don't like it, I think it sounds like it could be a disease / medical term

Mandarinaduck · 17/07/2024 22:43

A bit too out there for me.
What about Galatea?

HaveYouSeenRain · 17/07/2024 22:44

Just no.

HowIrresponsible · 17/07/2024 22:47

Haveyougotallnight · 17/07/2024 22:23

Queen song instantly

Why it's Galileo in the song.

Will these kids at primary school even know Bohemian Rhapsody?

It sure makes a change from all the Olivia's and Amelia's.

No.

Why are people not naming their babies normal names these days?! Confused

aveenobambino · 17/07/2024 22:48

Sorry OP, bohemian rhapsody is the first thing that came to my mind too

Pipecleanerrevival · 17/07/2024 22:48

how about Jane?

HeySummerWhereAreYou · 17/07/2024 22:48

Apologies for quoting the OP's original post! Didn't mean to!

Thelondonone · 17/07/2024 22:49

Are you very religious?

RoseUnder · 17/07/2024 22:51

Really pretty name, with ancient heritage. Unusual but sayable.
The reference to the 1980s Queen song is stretched and will be less relevant to your daughter’s generation (how many kids today even know that song?). Besides it’s a cool reference and a cool song anyway.
