Just thinking after reading - is Peter a boring name thread - how I would hate the DCs to have names that sounded awful shortened - Dave, Phil, Pete etc.

What are your kids names shortened to and do any of you get pissed that they are shortened at all - DS has a really weird long name that is shortened - as we call him the shortened version - not his Sunday name- DD's is never really shortened - some call her Hetty (which she hates) or H but never anything which I find really horrid!

My DD (5) is called Georgia. We shorten it to Georgie most of the time but the in laws keep calling her Georgie Porgie even though I've asked them not to.

They don't understand why it annoys me

Why do I bother!

My ds1 called Jaidon, my nephew is the only one that shortens it to Jady! My ds2 called Brodie and is called Brodie Bear or Boom Boom (as in hey fatty boom boom, he is a BIG boy)!!
I do find it amusing though, when a name cannot be shortened we legnthen it, my nephew Luke is called Lukey and my friends wee boy Ross called Rossy!!

Mine are shortened to Kiki and Lulu. I worry when I call them those names as I think it sounds very Harry Enfield circa 1980/90 but individually I love their names.

My son is called Dennis. Or Monster for short

Archie = Archie/Surnamesy
Christabelle Edie Jocasta = known by Edie shortened to Eedes
Ottilie Violet Gracie = Otts
Hamish Jensen Rupert = known as Rupert = Rupe
Araminta = Minty/moo/mintymoo
Flossie Isabella Rose = Furry (FIR) I get VERY angry if anyone tries to shorten Flossie to Floss, then again she is all new and shiny still (22-2-08) so in a year or two I'll probably be doing it myself!

I'm Rebekah, but normally get called Becky (yes the common version but you all have the common spelling of Rebecca ) DH calls me Bex a lot as do most of my longer term freinds. I really wish my parents had shortened it to Becca (or Bekah in my case) as I prefer it to Becky. I love my name but sadly only the doctor or dentist etc call me Rebekah now.

DS1 is Alex as DH has a long name so didn't want Alexander. Mind you I always called him Lexie, or Ally, but now at 14 I'm only allowed to call him Alex or Al (which we do quite a lot)

DS2 is Caleb, doesn't get shortened by anyone but me and I sometimes call him Cabes - dunno why!

DS3 is Dylan and doesn't have his name shortened. I'd hate Dyls and as his middle name begins with a J I have made it very clear he is not to be called DJ!!

DH has many different names and I have to remember who I am speaking to when talking about him as it can get confusing!

Hi... names are so personal. I called DD Eleanor as soon as we knew at 20 weeks, but DH immediately shortened it to Ellie so she became Ellie-Belly. DS was named Thomas, which has become Tom, Tommy, Tom-Tom or, for some reason I cannot fathom, Tiddles! (Only by me, thankfully). Any guesses what he was called prior to the birth? Why, Tommy-Tummy of course!
