What are your kid's names shortened to?

Just thinking after reading - is Peter a boring name thread - how I would hate the DCs to have names that sounded awful shortened - Dave, Phil, Pete etc.

What are your kids names shortened to and do any of you get pissed that they are shortened at all - DS has a really weird long name that is shortened - as we call him the shortened version - not his Sunday name- DD's is never really shortened - some call her Hetty (which she hates) or H but never anything which I find really horrid!

my DD is called Kirsten and I affectionately call her Kiki, I get some funny looks though, when people think that is her real name!!

CantSleepWontSleep · 11/04/2008 08:22

Dd is Philippa, but known as Pippa. It actually sounds rather odd when people call her by her full name!

stoppinattwo · 11/04/2008 08:29

DS is Con, DD is Moo

2point4kids · 11/04/2008 08:32

I specifically chose names for both my boys that have long versions and short versions because my name cant be shortened and i always wanted a nickname when i was younger!

DS1 is Oliver/Ollie
DS2 is Edward/Ted

cantsleepwontsleep - Ilove the name Pippa!

sweetkitty · 11/04/2008 08:33

DD1 is Abs, DD2 is Tals

CantSleepWontSleep · 11/04/2008 09:08

Thanks 2.4 .

Both my boys have names that can be shortened but we don't.. neither do the family. Always thought it would be up to them if they want to be shortened versions as they are older.
DS1 is nearly 5 and prefers his name as it is and tells people this if they then shorten it!

serenity · 11/04/2008 10:19

I liked the short forms of the DSs names, but gave them the long version so they a choice iyswim (Nick/Nicholas and Matt/Matthew)

DD is Lydia, which I didn't think could really be shortened, but she does get called 'Dia', as that's how she used to say her own name.

Enid · 11/04/2008 10:21

top 2 have names that so far have not been shortened

dd3 is Beatrice so invariably Bea

although when she starts school they insist on calling children their full given name

Enid · 11/04/2008 10:22

I find it impossilbel to call any Julie anythign other than Jules

BexieID · 11/04/2008 10:54

My mum wanted to call me Beckie, but chose Rebecca in case I didn't like Beckie when I was older. I'm generally known as Beckie, Becks, Bexie, Bex, but on official stuff it's Rebecca.

I do call Thomas, Tom. I do get a little annoyed when people call him Tommy. One of the toddler mums asked if I minded Tom, as her son was getting confused with my Thomas and Thomas The Tank Engine, lol.

Solitaire · 11/04/2008 10:57

OOh Beckie I'm so excited, another Beckie and not Becky! My older sister also calls me Bexie, childhood thing I think. Only Mum calls me Rebecca. If anyone alse calls me it I think I'm in trouble in a naughty child way

BexieID · 11/04/2008 11:03

I get the naughty child feeling as well if anyone other than family call me Rebecca. It also annoys me when people spell Beckie, Becky. Not the common way please! Apparently though, Beckie is the Chav version, lol. I aint got no Burberry cap, tracksuit or big gold earrings!

Solitaire · 11/04/2008 11:06

Me neither!
I only spell it like that cos when I was a t school and decided I would shorten my name, my best friend had a lettering set that had no y's left in it, therefore Beckie was born!
However do get miffed at wrong spelling

AND you've got a Tom, we are SO alike!!

Sedge · 11/04/2008 11:29

First time Mumsnetter and here goes!
My mother is responsible for my kids nicknames (that said it is pretty much just her that uses them too) DD1 is Plum (looked like one when born) DD2 is Limpet (refused to leave my hip for years) and DS is Big Boy (one to live up to if it follows him into later life). Rachel (me) gets to be Rachey, which if anyone else called me I'd die. Rach is fine for those who know me well....

CrackerOfNuts · 11/04/2008 11:31

Lauren - Lol or Lolly

Chloe - Chlo

Harry - H (I don't call him this as I don't like it)

Phoenix · 11/04/2008 11:43

Ds(2) is Lewis, he gets Lew, Lewie, Lewby My brothers sometimes call him LJ (middle name James)

Piffle · 11/04/2008 11:45

Max - Max or dd calls him Maxi
Emilia = Emmy, Ems emmity wemmity woo or M
Finbar = Finn Finny the Finster

molette · 11/04/2008 11:47

I have a Joseph Robin. Somewhere along the line he's become Bob - and we quite like it. His sister has been Boo since birth - again for reasons long forgotten. So it's Bob n Boo. Our days are numbered though, I can sense a rebellion stirring!

Solitaire · 11/04/2008 11:47

Finn FInny the Finster
what a dude!!

babyontheway · 11/04/2008 12:01

daniel = baby d or danman or just my little man!

molette · 11/04/2008 12:05

cute! Bob's evolving too - the Bobster, Bobo,

oliviaelanasmum · 11/04/2008 12:09

My daughters are called :
Olivia-Mae - liv
Elana-Rose -Lana (which i hate!)
Maisy-Rae - Maize

Dont get me started on their nicknames!!
Gravy Face
Banana Nose
Moo

VictorianSqualor · 11/04/2008 12:09

For some reason I seem to lengthen my DC's names, not shorten them.
Bobby has become Bobski and Ella has become either Ellaroo, Elspeth or 'The girl who has the answer and the question too'
