What are your kid's names shortened to?

Just thinking after reading - is Peter a boring name thread - how I would hate the DCs to have names that sounded awful shortened - Dave, Phil, Pete etc.

What are your kids names shortened to and do any of you get pissed that they are shortened at all - DS has a really weird long name that is shortened - as we call him the shortened version - not his Sunday name- DD's is never really shortened - some call her Hetty (which she hates) or H but never anything which I find really horrid!

Another Tomtom here, but he also gets called munchy(buckets),cheekymcsqueeky, and thomasmomas. DD who is Lucy is affectionally know as Luluabulu or lucylocketpopatepoppet or hehe. The ones I don't like (for unknown reasons) are tommy and lou probably cos they arn't long enough

Ledodgy · 11/04/2008 22:13

Lol we have a Tomtom and a Jackjack. My dd is Eve and we don't change that at all don't know why we feel the need to say the boy's names twice!

Nemoandthefishes · 11/04/2008 22:17

DD1 IS hannah may but gets hannah bop bop bop..no idea why other people call her hanns
DD2 is chloe and gets chloester or chloe a licious other people call her chlo

Mhamai · 11/04/2008 22:21

Jamie is Jemmerbebs.

Sarahjane is Shwad.

Therefore the shorter one has become longer and the longer one shorter.

SoupKitchen · 11/04/2008 22:27

Toby- Tobs, Tob, Toby Jo, Toby Joseph (Joseph is his middle name)

Chloe- Clo, Clo-Clo

Me (Sophie)- Soph, So, So-So, Sofa

My sister is a Rebecca- she gets Bec, Bex or Becca but never Becky as my mum was adamant that it would never be Becky.

Kaya - k

Bethany - beth-beth

But mostly I call them Ratbags

chefswife · 12/04/2008 20:42

I love how nicknames come about. I have a friend who at 36 is still called Wink, which was a drink in Canada back in the early 80?s, of which she now admits being addicted to then. We call my friend Jeanette, Jeans. My dad called me Piggy Jack and was still calling my Kiddo till 2001? he passed. My sister?s get their names shortened although when the youngest was younger my other sister and I called her Chubby? honestly it was endearment.
Ps?what does ?emoslut? mean?

nelliesmum · 12/04/2008 20:48

Olivia is Livi,
Elinor is Nellie...which is AWFUL, how did that happen?

helewele · 13/04/2008 00:24

I also have an Olivia which has gone through about 100 different variations!! Liv-Liv, Livvy, liv-li-la-love-ya-lots, stinkybum mcbumbum (last name starts with mc) peanut (which was her name as a bump). I've actually started calling her Olivia more often now though weird because I wanted to shorten it to livvy when I chose it!

Nelliesmum - my name was shortened to nellie or nell when I was growing up by my parents, and my name is Helen. My best friend calls me 'hellsbellshammerandtongs'

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 13/04/2008 09:52

DD is Evelyn Boo, when she was born we assumed everybody would call her Evie Boo a lot, but people hardly use it now, (she's 2 and a half).
I suspect when she starts school she may become Evie.
DH and I call her Evelyn mostly, but Boo gets used a lot (her middle name).
She calls herself Eberlyn as she's not too hot at pronouncing her Vs!

wowyfoss · 13/04/2008 18:35

ours is named Aneurin John but no one knows that! MIL only discovered that Nye wasn't actually his name about six months ago. lol

chavtastic · 13/04/2008 18:39

To OP: my dc are called Pete, Phil and Dave.

No, not really, but why not? (FFS). I kind of wish I had called them that, now. Pete Townsend, Dave Stewart, Phil Collins -- awful names, obviously, aren't they?

SniffyHock · 13/04/2008 18:40

I've always preferred names that can be shortened but went for Ava with DD - we never shorten or lengthen it. What might she get called? Aves??? (yuk!)

shoshe · 13/04/2008 19:04

lots of my mindees have had names shortened or lenghhtened, RubyBoo, Ossie Bear (Oscar, but answeres to Ossie or Bear ignores you if called oscar) Grumbles (Grace) (as in Gracie grumbles) Rumbles (Reece)as in Reecie rumbles, umm I think we will have to stop it

PersephoneSnape · 13/04/2008 19:04

tabitha gets shortened/lengthened to tabby, tabster, tabs, fab, fabba and bun. I tried 'kitty' but she wasn't having it.

LilRedWG · 13/04/2008 19:07

Sniffy - beware. My friend's Mum chose names that cannot be shortened. Gail is now Gay and Ian is E.

CristinaTheAstonishing · 13/04/2008 19:11

Elizabeth to Bootsy and Bootsylaki. Heidi to Heidiutza.

Vulgar · 13/04/2008 19:19

wowyfoss - how do you pronounce Aneurin?

CristinaTheAstonishing · 13/04/2008 20:27

Isn't it Anevrin?

BexieID · 14/04/2008 10:41

Aneurin = Anor-ring? I'm sure someone was called that in a film/tv show, or I've been served by someone with that name in a shop and asked how it was pronounced. It was a name I ended up using for a story once.

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 14/04/2008 10:48

But it gets shortened to Nye, as in Nye (Aneurin) Bevin.

Northumberlandlass · 14/04/2008 13:03

My DS (4.8) is called Archie which I love - He is NOT Archibald. His friends call him Arch which don't particularly like, but hey ho !
