Eve and Steve- thoughts ?

We love the name Evelyn for a girl and would shorten to Eve. Only issue is my husband is called Stephen and goes by Steve with everyone bar his parents. Do you think Eve and Steve are too similar? Will they sound silly together? My husband assures me nobody would make the connection or think about them rhyming m. Would appreciate honest opinions

Awful together, almost like a joke .

Durdledore · 19/06/2024 00:54

Don’t give this a second thought

Durdledore · 19/06/2024 00:56

Oh I see I’ve said the opposite to the person above so just to clarify, I mean - it’s a total non-issue. She will be out in the world soon enough as her own person (work, mates, partner etc) and it won’t matter one but what her dad is called.

GodspeedJune · 19/06/2024 00:57

Absolutely fine as a parents name. I’d only avoid if it were a sibling set.

OnTheRightSideOfGeography · 19/06/2024 01:03

Is this where you tell us that your name is Martha, and you already have an older son called Arthur?!

DoingJustFine · 19/06/2024 01:12

It’s fine. The only issue I could see is when you’re calling for one of them across the house…

Gillyyy · 19/06/2024 06:05

I wouldn’t do it personally.. in every card it’ll be: love from Steve, Camden, Eve…

DoublePeonies · 19/06/2024 06:33

Father and daughter? No issue.
I'd be slightly more hesitant for a pair of siblings.

FrenchandSaunders · 19/06/2024 06:35

I thought this was a twin names post 🤣🤣

Littlelillies · 19/06/2024 06:58

Way too similar - imagine calling St(eve) up the stairs - who would be meant?!

Littlelillies · 19/06/2024 06:59

Or if they sign a card - from Steve and Eve ?!

Absolutely fine :)

stickthewellyin · 19/06/2024 07:26

I think it's fine just stick your name between theirs when writing it down.

However every Evelyn I've known pronounces it "Ev Lin" are you using "Eve Lin"?

Jegersur · 19/06/2024 07:27

It’s fine

YYURYYUCICYYUR4ME · 19/06/2024 07:28

The Evelyn I know, is called Lyn by most and Evv by her family, so no guarantee it will be Eve.

GreyhoundGal1 · 19/06/2024 08:17

My dad is named Stephen and they called me Stephanie, literally the female version of his name, and none of us realised until I was an adult. They did it totally by accident. So I think it'll be fine.

This is exactly the scenario I keep thinking about but husband would just have to be Stephen on cards from now on!

No it will be ev-lin like you said. I’ve always liked the idea of a more ‘formal’ grown up name that can have a nickname

It's fine. I don't like Evelyn though and Evie is so overused, but she's not my baby to name.

TwigTheWonderKid · 19/06/2024 08:36

Absolutely fine.

TwigTheWonderKid · 19/06/2024 08:37

In fact I know a family where the dad is Steve and daughter Evelyn and they don't seem to have any problems.

Raiseyourglass24 · 19/06/2024 08:37

It’s fine. As long as you are not called Niamh!

Mrsdht · 19/06/2024 08:39

My ex was stephen called steve. Our daughter is eve. If i called steve up the stairs then steve answered. it's always been fine tbh. No issues. In fact she sometimes gets called evie.
The problem is. My new husband is named steve. And his son is named steve. This is not a joke.
Really predictable name late 60s and his deceased wife chose the sons name...

This is reassuring!
