Giving birth to DD2 in a few days, sister to Lucy, and here is the final shortlist:

  • Serena
  • Esme
  • Delphine

I am French, DH is British, we live in the UK.

I would like a name that is cheerful, like Lucy.

At this stage I am ready to go with the one that gets the most votes from this thread as I can't decide and love them equally!

thanks!

Serena.

To me, it feels the happiest.

It would depend on your surname for me. If their surname is British Serena Smith or Serena Johnson works best for me.

If their surname is French Delphine would be my preference eg. Delphine Boucher. Delphine is such a beautiful name!

WindowViper · 05/06/2024 20:05

Serena, deffo. Lovely name.

CJ0374 · 05/06/2024 20:05

There are SO many threads where people in the UK are pronouncing Esme as Ez-mee! Personally, I only know Ez-May's, but beware that some people will say Ez-Mee!

I prefer Serena, 2nd choice is Delphine, 3rd is Esme due to the potential pronunciation issues.

DiscoBeat · 05/06/2024 20:05

Serena

I really love Euphemia (Effie for short) - would probably used it if we hadn't had all boys!

Killerqueenie · 05/06/2024 20:09

Serena is lovely

Surname is only syllable and british, think Smith :)

They are all beautiful! Lucy and Esme has a nice ring to it! However I have never met a Delphine so I consider that one fairly unique and special in the UK. It's a stunning name.

Beautifulbythebay · 05/06/2024 20:11

Delphine is a donkey in Peppa Pig. Or likely turned into Dolphin. Dc can be cruel...
Esmae is nice...

Esme or Serena

AdaColeman · 05/06/2024 20:23

Delphine is a fabulous name, I hope you chose it!

I'm not keen on Esme, it's very "old lady" but somehow doesn't have the same vibe of other old lady names that are so fashionable just now.

NetMum2 · 05/06/2024 20:31

Serena is my favourite!

mangobananasmooothie · 05/06/2024 20:40

Delphine, nn Delphie - very pretty
Serena is ok
Esme I have never liked and I never know whether it should be pronounced Ez-may or Ez-mee (I have come across both)

SilverSimca · 05/06/2024 20:42

Esme

NewName24 · 05/06/2024 20:51

I like Esme bast out of the 3, but around here, everyone would say Ez - mee, which (from previous threads) would upset people who want to hear Ez- may

Serena is okay.

I don't like Delphine, and would say it has a very different style / 'feel' to it from the sort of name Lucy is.

Moreteaandchocolate · 05/06/2024 20:52

Lovely names! I have a Lucy and would choose Esme!

RuthW · 05/06/2024 21:38

Delphine
