Me and my partner both have decided on Veronica as a girls name, he loves Veronica and the nickname V, but I love it because of the nickname Ronnie. I don't exactly love Veronica as a name, but I love Ronnie because it's my grandads name and I think it's really sweet for a girl. He thinks Ronnie is really chavvy and sounds rough so doesn't like it and said he wouldn't call her that but he really likes Veronica. I didn't think Ronnie sounded chavvy for a girl but now I'm stressing and thinking I have to tell everyone I'm changing her name 😭

Please tell me what you think, give me HONESTY

I only know boys called Ronnie. As for a girls name, it's quite nice not sure as an adult but then she could go by Veronica

Pinkfluffypencilcase · 25/05/2024 17:31

I love it. Don’t think it’s chavvy. I knew 2 Ronnies (😂 sorry not a joke!) and both lovely and not at all chavvy.

Globetrote · 25/05/2024 17:31

I think you need to find another name that you both love, otherwise what are you actually going to call DD everyday? Veronica, V or Ronnie? Either way one of you won’t be happy.

Personally, I don’t like Ronnie and also not for a girl.

CoffeeShopDog · 25/05/2024 17:37

I don’t like Veronica, V or Ronnie.

More importantly, you both don’t really like either the full name or your partners preferred shortenings for it, so I think you would be better choosing something else.

CoalTit · 25/05/2024 17:40

I love Veronica and Ronnie. I'm not so keen on V.

IsadoraQuagmire · 25/05/2024 17:41

I love Veronica, but not any shortened version of it. I really don't like Ronnie as a girl's name (not wild about it as a boy's name really)

crumpet · 25/05/2024 17:42

I know a Veronica nn Ronnie. She’s about 8 now

Bichette · 25/05/2024 17:43

I like Veronica and Ronnie.
What about Vivi (veevee) as a nickname?

RuthW · 25/05/2024 17:48

Veronica is lovely. Ronnie and V are fine too.

abracadabra1980 · 25/05/2024 17:50

I don't like Veronica, V, or Ronnie. Sorry.

TakeThePain · 25/05/2024 17:52

Ronnie is honesty awful.

V is also not great.

I think you need to find a name you both actually love, instead of this weird patchwork approach to naming.

Rainydayze · 25/05/2024 17:53

Love it, as I’m old enough to remember Ronnie Birtles in Grange Hill!

Pinkfluffypencilcase · 25/05/2024 18:13

The people not liking it probably haven’t met a Ronnie. It’s lovely and different.

Min133 · 25/05/2024 18:27

I like it. There's a Veronica (nn Ronnie) in a TV show I like to watch and the name really suits her

Moreteaandchocolate · 25/05/2024 18:29

I like the name Veronica. My first instinct is that I don’t like Ronnie for short, but if I met someone called Ronnie it might grow on me. And she would have the option of the full name or another shortening if she preferred when older.

Nicelynicelyjohnson · 25/05/2024 18:32

I love Veronica and I also know two Ronnies (!) but I think need to let a nickname settle on someone rather than expect or force it. So unless you love Veronica, don't call her Veronica.

Same! That is the first thing I thought of! One half of rap duo Fresh n Fly if I remember correctly 🤣

sofasofa42 · 25/05/2024 18:36

I LOVE Veronica . She would be Vee or Vee Vee in early years and then she has the option of Nica . Ron I think is better than Ronnie. It's kind of cute to shorten to a boys name.
I wouldn't call a baby girl Ronnie- especially when she hits 6 months and goes through the " grant mitchell" phase ( they all do , admit it!) .
Veronica on the continent is tres chique. Such a nice change from Olivia ( yawwwn)

I like Veronica nn Ronnie, it’s lovely.

ExcellentCat · 25/05/2024 18:48

Made me think of Ronnie Gilbert from The Weavers, but that’s probably a bit before your time lol.
I like it. V not so much, but vivi okay.

WindowViper · 25/05/2024 18:50

I know a little newborn Ronnie. When she was introduced everyone said ‘what an interesting name’.

Personally I think it’s awful. It sounds like an old bloke who starts his Wetherspoons pint at 10am. Like calling a girl Keith.

But… DD2 has a marmite name. I love it and it suits her, so it doesn’t really matter what other think.

MaryFuckingFerguson · 25/05/2024 18:52

Ronnie sounds like a really awful, chavvy name to me.

TakeThePain · 25/05/2024 18:53

Well that's the name board fucked then, if that's the only basis on which you are allowed to opine.

KnittingKnewbie · 25/05/2024 18:53

Ronnie means "moustache" where I come from
As in, it's slang, not a word in a different language
