Me and my partner both have decided on Veronica as a girls name, he loves Veronica and the nickname V, but I love it because of the nickname Ronnie. I don't exactly love Veronica as a name, but I love Ronnie because it's my grandads name and I think it's really sweet for a girl. He thinks Ronnie is really chavvy and sounds rough so doesn't like it and said he wouldn't call her that but he really likes Veronica. I didn't think Ronnie sounded chavvy for a girl but now I'm stressing and thinking I have to tell everyone I'm changing her name 😭

Please tell me what you think, give me HONESTY

Just grim unless the surname is Barker or Corbett.

Roundroundthegarden · 25/05/2024 21:32

It sounds like a mob name or gangster.

LittleGreenDuck · 25/05/2024 21:35

I'm not keen on Ronnie, but I wouldn't say it's chavvy. I do know of a Bronwen who's known as Ronnie.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 25/05/2024 21:37

I’m assuming Ronnie has downmarket associations for a girl because of Eastenders? A bit like Bianca unless you associate it with Shakespeare instead.

Don’t mind Veronica, not keen on Ronnie - but then I don’t like Reggie, Alfie etc for boys either as I tend to like more elegant sounding names (personal taste). I’d probably use the nn Nico instead for Veronica - very cool.

Jegersur · 25/05/2024 21:38

veronica is nice, but Ronnie isn’t. I’m not keen on V either, but it’s OK.

sparklychair · 25/05/2024 21:41

I called my Welsh godmother Aunty Roni, but her actual name was Aeronwy, which I think is a lovely name.

BebbanburgIsMine · 26/05/2024 00:40

I don't like Veronica,

I hate shortened names for girls, so don't like Ronnie either. I did however, knew a girl years ago who was called Ronay, pronounced Roan-Ay which I thought was rather nice.

SnowFrogJelly · 26/05/2024 01:08

Ronnie and V both awful

urbanbuddha · 26/05/2024 01:20

I know a Veronica nn Ronnie. She’s certainly not chavvy, quite posh in fact.

TheCultureHusks · 26/05/2024 01:39

I think you just need to find a different name. You’re going to have a battle over what her short name is, and all three are weirdly different! Veronica, V, Ronnie. There’s just no middle ground except the full name and you don’t love it.

Kitkat1523 · 26/05/2024 02:11

its a bit chavvy….a bit eastenders….for me anyway

novocaine4thesoul · 26/05/2024 02:29

I like it, I worked with a girl called Ronnie in the '80s (suspect she was probably called Veronica) I thought she had a really cool name. You could call your child something that is safe and in vogue and have 3 in the class called the same though.

nothingsforgotten · 26/05/2024 05:43

I like it. My Dad was Ron. Ignore the judgemental posts OP, if you want to call your daughter Ronnie then do so. Your DH sounds awful btw, and using the word "chavvy' would put me right off someone.

MavisPennies · 26/05/2024 06:02

My brother calls me Ronnie. We grew up working class (and perhaps chavi? I'm not sure - neither of us had that beige tartan that was associated with being chavi in the 90s, but we were binge drinking free school dinners kids)
I like Ronnie, it's a bit different and you'll be giving her options for her own nickname later.

CurlewKate · 26/05/2024 07:46

I really really don't like using boy's names for girls. Particularly as nobody ever comes on here saying "I'm thinking of calling my baby boy Rose after my grandma. What do you think?"

TheYearOfSmallThings · 26/05/2024 07:49

I like it - the only Ronnie I know is my very lovely next door neighbour Ronnie (I presume Veronica) who must be pushing 80.

EricHebbornInItaly · 26/05/2024 07:50

Sorry Ronnie is awful. Sounds like another poster said some old bloke at a spoons.

Veronica is a lovely name but sadly has some awful diminutive names.

user1492757084 · 26/05/2024 07:54

Veronica is not a fave for me.
Other names I prefer ..
Roni - Hebrew meaning joyful, singing.
Saffron
Ronalda
Rhonda
Rhona
Roslyn
Rosanagh
Caron

parababe · 26/05/2024 08:40

I'm a Veronica - Most call me Ronnie, but there is the occasional V, Rons, Nica, Vronks.....
At nearly 50, I quite like my name! Cant imagine being anything else!! Although to be fair, most of the time I'll answer to anything that isn't rude!!!

Firsttimebabymummy · 26/05/2024 08:50

I love Veronica and Ronnie. I don't think it's chavvy at all.

TakeThePain · 26/05/2024 09:37

Just remembered I used to know a Veronica who was known as Vron.

Brexile · 26/05/2024 10:09

I knew an Irish Veronica, nn Ronnie, who would bein her 70s now.

Véronique (nn Véro) sounds more glamorous to me, although it's no more of a young person's name than Veronica.

Veronica does remind me of verruca unfortunately, although that might just be me. Plus people would assume that you were Catholic, which may or may not be correct and/or a problem, depending on where you live.

Greenflamesburn · 26/05/2024 10:16

V is a ridiculous nickname and she will likely be thought of as a Victoria not a Veronica.
Why give your daughter a beautiful 8 letter name and use one letter? Just call her V.
Nothing wrong with Ronnie at all and preferable over V personally.

JimPansy · 26/05/2024 20:15

I have know a Vee and a V. Neither are Victoria or Veronica. It's no more ridiculous than Dee or Jay as a nn.

LittleDoveLove · 27/05/2024 01:05

Not a fan of Ronnie but like V . X
