Me and my partner both have decided on Veronica as a girls name, he loves Veronica and the nickname V, but I love it because of the nickname Ronnie. I don't exactly love Veronica as a name, but I love Ronnie because it's my grandads name and I think it's really sweet for a girl. He thinks Ronnie is really chavvy and sounds rough so doesn't like it and said he wouldn't call her that but he really likes Veronica. I didn't think Ronnie sounded chavvy for a girl but now I'm stressing and thinking I have to tell everyone I'm changing her name 😭

Please tell me what you think, give me HONESTY

Soon as I saw Ronnie my suggestion was as long as it’s a nn for Veronica. However I will say you can’t guarantee nn once they are in school. My dd is Imogen and had the nn Immy as a toddler once she started school she didn’t like Immy so was Imogen at home, at school she was Imz or Idgy and since been a teen is now Midge.
So expect school to throw out some wonderful nn Ron, Veve, Nica are few possibilities.

Well that's the name board fucked then, if that's the only basis on which you are allowed to opine.

😂😂 yes probably!

it obviously does make a difference to whether you know and like a person with that name. My ex was a teacher and ruled out so many names because he had one in his class he didn’t like!

shoopshoopdedoo · 25/05/2024 19:44

I really like it. My mum has a friend called Ronnie and she is great, so that’s colours my view!

AGodawfulsmallaffair · 25/05/2024 19:46

I like Ronnie, but for a teen and up. Also like V, but that’s my nieces nickname ( not for Veronica though) .

ShinyBandana · 25/05/2024 19:46

I think Ronnie is cool for a girl and Veronica is beautiful. I like Ve and Vera too.

HeddaGarbled · 25/05/2024 19:47

I like it, and giving her the full name of Veronica gives her choices later on.

Simd1 · 25/05/2024 19:51

I like it, it's a cute nickname and Veronica is a proper solid, sensible name if she prefers when she's older. It could be spelled Roni or Ronni like Ronni Ancona.

To me it sounds quite posh if anything!

MidnightPatrol · 25/05/2024 19:53

The Veronica I know is known as ‘Vonnie’.

TheBirdintheCave · 25/05/2024 19:58

This is my SILs name :) Except she's Ronica (a Hindu name) as her full name.

I also knew a Veronica/Ronnie at uni.

DreamTheMoors · 25/05/2024 19:59

I know a Ronnie.
She’s a darling, pretty girl. And she’s charming and kind and sweet.
Her namesake was killed in a car crash and he was beloved by all who knew him.
Ronnie’s mum absolutely did not want to name her Ronnie, but her dad wouldn’t hear of naming her anything else.
But that’s her name: Ronnie - not Veronica.

I think if your daughter’s name reminds you of your grandfather, there couldn’t be anything sweeter or more appropriate.

crucible2024 · 25/05/2024 20:03

Ronnie is such a cool girl's name. Conjures up a quietly confident strong young woman who plays the sax

ALunchbox · 25/05/2024 20:06

I knew a Veronica and her friends called her Ron-face. That put me off the name Veronica!
I wouldn't say Ronnie is chavvy though.

TizerorFizz · 25/05/2024 20:07

As I have a name that sounds like a boys name - be very careful. It's annoying when you have to keep saying you are female. Personally I think Veronique is better.

VibeOnWithMyGalPals · 25/05/2024 20:11

There used to be a Veronica (Ronnie) in Eastenders.

I really, really dislike both. Ronnie is particularly awful, though. Sorry, but you did want honesty Blush

Cucumberz · 25/05/2024 20:12

Love Ronnie. Prefer Saffron with nn Ronnie.

Cucumberz · 25/05/2024 20:15

I adore Renee too

Renae

blue345 · 25/05/2024 20:25

He thinks Ronnie is really chavvy and sounds rough so doesn't like it and said he wouldn't call her that

Sorry but I'm with him 100% on that (even though my grandpa was a Ronald).

miniaturepixieonacid · 25/05/2024 20:35

I think Veronica is very elegant and nn Ronnie is cute. V is okay too. But neither will work if you don't both like them.

I know it's been mentioned as a completely different name but could Ronica be a compromise. I think that's so pretty. Nica is lovely too.

Pinkfluffypencilcase · 25/05/2024 20:48

Ronni Ancona
Ronnie Spector

Both suit it and not chavvy.

SquawkerTexasRanger · 25/05/2024 20:57

I love Ronnie for a girl it’s a yes from me

IDontLoveTheWayYouLie · 25/05/2024 21:02

Made me think of Ronnie from Eastenders. That's the only girl I know with the name.

I've got a cousin (boy) called Ronnie too.

It wouldn't say I like it but it's not a bad name.

JimPansy · 25/05/2024 21:11

Veronica nn Ronni was on our list. Both of us educated to postgraduate level and not chavvy.

Wontletmeusemynormalname · 25/05/2024 21:13

One of my daughters' middle name after her grandad.

TakeThePain · 25/05/2024 21:28

Ron-face! 😆😆

That's the thing about nicknames; before your baby is born you imagine you will choose their nickname. And it absolutely isn't the case!

My kids get called all sorts of crap, and almost none of those names relate to their actual given names in any way.

Cazziebo · 25/05/2024 21:32

I know two female Ronnies - both fabulous. One is a Rhonda and one a Veronica. Both of them strong, caring, successful women.
