Me and dp have decided that we are going to call dd3 Skye.

We both have very different taste so finding at least one that we both like is nothing short of a bloody miracle!

Everyone thats been told this has screwed their faces up and made comments like "your joking"

Especially BF who made several nasty comments and is apparently taking over as soon as i've had her and demands she comes over within 24 hours of me popping her out! (erm nope!)

please someone tell me it isn't that bad

(ps everyone seemed to like the name my brother chose for his ds due in june...miecha pronounced mika, although they have changed it now but still.....)

I like it.

Names grow on people, don't worry, once people actually know your dd the name will just become her.

Dragonbutter · 03/04/2008 00:04

it's a nice name.
certainly not hideous.
you need new friends.

solo · 03/04/2008 00:06

I think it's a pretty name, but it is very popular for both boys and girls.

My daughters name is pretty and unusal and most people love it. I try to avoid telling mums to be what it is so they don't use it too!!!

You go with it, it's lovely!

iliketosleep · 03/04/2008 00:08

well the one comment she made which really got my back up was...

theres a girl at work called sky and she looks like a rat!

I said well dd isnt going to be the rat at work she is going to be my precious baby girl

to which i got a

thankyou for reassuring me

Its okay...but I do think some people think of it as chavvy,
I personally don't, but I know some people that would.
But whatever suits you

mybabysinthegarden · 03/04/2008 00:13

Isn't it funny how when you mention a name, people are compelled to tell you about a really awful person with that name that they know! I think it's sweet btw, certainly quite popular in Scotland.

lovely
ignore them
i had this with ds3 name
one person ' you are NOT!' another 'no comment'

it grew on them all and he is now 5 and i love love love it!

iliketosleep · 03/04/2008 00:19

other 3 dc have 'normal' names but i wanted something that wasnt to old fashioned, wasnt to up to date, wasnt overly popular but wasnt unheard of iyswim so i thought this sat right in the middle.

I hate that we were excited that we had got something sorted and everyone comes along and messes it all around

its MY baby!! oh ive even had i'll pick my own name and call her that lol

People are rude are they not.

I would never react like that tho I have heard some names in my time that I am not mad on.

Skye is quite trendy and funky which is fine. Does it go with other DDs' names?

Purplepillow · 03/04/2008 00:20

Well I think it's a beautiful name

As long as you and dh are happy with the name, just tell everyone else to fark off

iliketosleep · 03/04/2008 00:21

well i think so i shall be brave and reveal them....

I think it's a nice name. I had a certain amount of crap from some people over DS' name, which is a bit unusual but when I chose it I knew it would be shortened while he was little and I gave him an extra middle name so he can use that when he's older if he wants.

Clary · 03/04/2008 00:33

yes I think Skye goes well with those names actually.

iliketosleep · 03/04/2008 00:34

well i can say the 4 together and it sort of rolls off my tongue, its just trying to find a middle name!

Chillaxed · 03/04/2008 00:37

I like it, too. It is a very popular name here in Aust. It's pretty.

madamez · 03/04/2008 00:41

Well DS is Victory John Andrew. Known to everyone as VJ and has been since he was about a day old - I can't even remember who started calling him that first. When I first found out I was PG I said something about 'the little victory' and someone else said, that's a nice name. His dad, who was supportive at first, wanted the baby (of either gender) to be called Andy (Andi?) and I considered Andrew/Andrea - basically because of how me and DS dad initially met, some 15 years before DS was concieved. Then DS dad took against the idea of fatherhood and ran away (he is now excellent supportive fab dad, etc etc so no worries there) and I kept on referring to my unborn bump as Little Victory, which after a few mutterings about going for either Victor or Victoria settled on Victory John or Victory Jane, and then decided I would add in the Andrew/Andrea for his dad's benefit should his dad ever reappear and also so he(or she as I didn't know for sure till he arrived) would have a choice of names to use.
And I still think Victory John sounds like some kind of cool New Orleans blues man, but VJ is my little boy and it's him.

iliketosleep · 03/04/2008 00:44

thats such a wonderful story and a lovely unusual name too!

I also like it when names are shortened down to initials.

My brother has a friend called thomas james i think but everyone calls him tj
