Not a name I’ve come across previously.

Nap1983 · 09/04/2024 11:23

I know a couple, but not common IMO

TheBirdintheCave · 09/04/2024 11:24

https://names.darkgreener.com/#reuben

Currently sitting at number 36 in England and Wales and is very much on the rise!

I don't know any personally however. You'd also have to factor in the registrations with the original Hebrew spelling of Reuven or other European spellings like Ruben (or even mispellings like Rueben!) to get a true picture.

2 in my dc1's class at primary (Y4). I know a good few from working in secondary schools.

It isn't hugely popular though. At secondary I think the most common name might be Harry or Alfie and Reuben is nowhere near as popular as either of those.

FartingAgainstThunder · 09/04/2024 11:31

One of twins, less than a year old.
He is the only one I know of though.

Colinfromaccounts24 · 09/04/2024 11:33

I know one (aged 10).

DuchessOfSausage · 09/04/2024 11:40

Yes. It's popular and has been for a while. Roman, Rowan, Romy and Ruby are popular too.

ZipZapZoom · 09/04/2024 11:44

Yes it's pretty popular and had been for a while now. I know quite a lot of Reubens aged between 1-10.

shellyleppard · 09/04/2024 11:45

Its my sons middle name (16 tomorrow).....we couldn't decide between two names so this was the compromise x

MulticolouredSloth · 09/04/2024 11:46

I have a Reuben, he’s 5yrs. The only one in his (small) school.
I don’t know of any others in person but have heard it called out in the park etc occasionally.

ViveLaOeuf · 09/04/2024 11:46

I can think of 2 - one is 4 and the other is early teens.

CointreauVersial · 09/04/2024 11:47

I've met a couple. Nice name!

DuchessOfSausage · 09/04/2024 11:53

I forgot, one of the ones I know is Ruben.

Not a name I’ve come across previously.

Checked with dd and she knows a couple. I must have been hiding under a rock

FlyingPizzaMonkey · 09/04/2024 12:15

Yes it’s common where I am. I know 3 but there are probably more at school.

Stickyricepudding · 09/04/2024 12:18

Are you Jewish as it is a very popular Jewish name? Similar to Levi, Cohen, Avi etc these are all Jewish orgin names and I've only come across Jewish boys with this name.

If you are Jewish then go ahead and use it as it is a lovely name but if you're not be prepared to be asked if you are.

EmpressaurusOfTheScathingTinsel · 09/04/2024 12:19

I know one baby & one adult, both Ruben.

AyeupDuck · 09/04/2024 12:19

DS has one mate called Reuben who is about 21, lovely name. I always said if I had another lad I would want that name.

MissAtomicBomb1 · 09/04/2024 12:29

I'm a primary teacher. Not particularly common. None currently in the large school I teach in but I've probably taught 2 or 3 over the past 10 years.
It's a nice name. Do you like it? If so why does it really matter?

BoleynMemories13 · 09/04/2024 12:50

It is massively on the rise. I know of 3 under the age of 2.

You have to question how much it actually matters though? Popular these days is nothing compared to the popular names of the past. Even if it is potentially near the top 20 right now, there are stil not that many around in the grand scheme of things. People strive to be more and more unusual these days, meaning that the 'popular' names don't actually make up for a huge percentage of babies born that year.

marshallzumarubble · 09/04/2024 12:57

Very popular where I am (Yorkshire), I can think of seven in my daughter's primary school. It has been in the top 100 since 2006 and is still rising, certainly not in the ranks of Harry and Toby yet though!

DuchessOfSausage · 09/04/2024 13:12

It's not in the 'Jack in the 1990s' league, @BoleynMemories13
. but it could be in the 'more than one in his class/team/friendship group/office' though.

kitsuneghost · 09/04/2024 13:13

I know a couple but they are older and Portuguese

Needanewname42 · 09/04/2024 13:15

2 in their early 20s and one of my DC talk about a Ruben but I've not met the child.

CormorantStrikesBack · 09/04/2024 13:18

My cousin in his 50s. He was always getting asked if he’s Jewish.
