Baby girl name - impossible

Indigolds · 23/03/2024 00:10

DH and I are expecting our first baby, a little girl, next month. We are finding picking a name impossible.

We don't mind but also don't really want to use these names

  • Ruby
  • Amber
  • Summer
  • Anna
  • Leah
  • Maya
  • Elena (Eh-lay-nah)

I think we want a name that evokes a feeling of warmth and adventure. Basically we have a concept for a name but not a name!!
We don't want anything too out there but nothing too popular either. Just an established well known name that's ideally not top 30-50.

Any ideas will be greatly appreciated!!

Imagine it being considered weird to name your child before you meet them but also saying "what if she seems more like a grumpy librarian?"

I thought it was normal to have at least a shortlist?

It is normal. That poster is being one of those.

It’s completely normal to have a shortlist, and it is also normal to pick a name before baby arrives if there is one you love!

What about:
Delilah
Layla
Clara
Tilly
Callie
Etta
Alyssa
Noa
Miley

Melissa - I'm picturing a bee hovering over a flowering shrub in a sunny garden

Your list is one of unremarkable popular names, Nothing wrong with them but they don't suggest warmth or adventure. I don't like Summer. Elena and Maya are quite dull. Leah disappears into all the Lily, Lyla, Lyra, Luna, Lola type names. I like Anna, but Amber or Ruby seem to suit the brief better.

Please don't hijack my thread with pettiness!!

We actually have a boys name picked out. Naming boys isn't always more difficult and there is no need to be petty that's quite immature.

Why would you pick a name for a someone you haven't even met yet. No wonder you're finding it impossible. Do you also name your pets before you meet them?

Meet her first and see what name feels like it suits her.

Respectfully, if you think having a baby name shortlist is so stupid wtf are you doing on the baby names thread, which is almost 100% people trying to narrow down their short lists pre -birth? Surely there's something else you could be doing other than picking at people who are excited to meet their latest family member and partaking in an activity that pregnant women and their partner's have been doing for centuries?
