Evening all,

What do you think of the name Seren for a girl? I know it's Welsh meaning Star. It has a lovely meaning for a wished/longed for child.
Would you say it travels well across UK and across say Europe (Spain, Greece etc)? Any one had any issues with people mispronouncing/not knowing name?

Thank you 🙂

Love love love Seren! One of my favourites ☺️

OneMoreTime23 · 18/03/2024 19:04

Ironically I’ve only ever heard it mispronounced in Cardiff when someone said “Serene”.

Champagnecharleyismyname · 18/03/2024 19:05

My DDs middle name, would have been her first name but our last name ends in S and felt like too many s sounds!

Beautiful name.

Strawberrycheesecake7 · 18/03/2024 19:07

I really like it. I’m Welsh and considered Seren as a middle name for my baby, but he turned out to be a little boy. I still might use it in the future though. Lovely name.

Whattobakeiwonder · 18/03/2024 19:09

It's beautiful.

I'd never heard of it until recently - it's the name of one of the twins in The Archers. I suspect it will be more widely known because of that. I love it- it's a beautiful name.

RaraRachael · 18/03/2024 19:27

It's a lovely name - I only ever taught one Seren and she was a really lovely child.

Mynewnameis · 18/03/2024 19:30

It's a popular name at our school (in wales). At least two in each year group. Nice name.

NahNeedsGarlic · 18/03/2024 19:39

It was on our shortlist, great name.

croom · 18/03/2024 19:40

Were you just watching the One Show?

KirstenBlest · 18/03/2024 19:53

Not keen on it. It seems a bit modern and it's popular, but I can't see the appeal.
Would you name a child Star?
There's also the Seren vs Serrun pronunciation issue.

If you like it use it but I wouldn't.

LindorDoubleChoc · 18/03/2024 19:55

Lovely name. My DD had a friend in her primary school class called Seren (this was around 16 years ago, so I don't think it's a modern fad type of name).

If you love it, choose it!

Wrongsideofpennines · 18/03/2024 19:59

I love the name Seren. I don't know about it travelling well but it is becoming more common outside of Wales.

RightOnTheEdge · 18/03/2024 20:16

I've only ever met one little girl called Seren and I thought it was a lovely name.

Ohwelljusttoday · 18/03/2024 20:19

It is an utterly timeless name. It is so very beautiful and I wish I had chosen it for mine.

KirstenBlest · 18/03/2024 20:30

I wouldn't say it was timeless. It fits in with the trend for names like Luna, Nova, Skye, Summer, Erin etc.

Serren is just wrong, sorry.

shakeitoffsis · 18/03/2024 20:30

Lovely but prefer it spelt serren

theduchessofspork · 18/03/2024 21:02

I like it

Also like Stella

They’re both getting more popular

Edited

It’s a very old welsh name.

TheOriginalEmu · 18/03/2024 21:50

It’s a beautiful name when pronounced the Welsh ways. I don’t like it when people pronounce Seh-run.

PickledScrump · 18/03/2024 21:50

My daughter’s middle name, I know of quite a few now under 13, I think most will have heard of it. It’s easy to pronounce.

KirstenBlest · 18/03/2024 21:50

Yeah, right.

Ogam · 18/03/2024 21:55

It’s a very popular name in Wales so I wouldn’t choose it living in Wales because of that. I do like the name if pronounced in the welsh way

Serenster · 18/03/2024 21:56

I’m a big fan 😀

IIdentifyAsInnocent · 18/03/2024 21:57

This was our name choice for a girl.... We had 3 boys!! 🤣

Absolutely love it
