Just that really!

OP posts:

No. Neither timeless nor classic.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 05/03/2024 21:14

It's a dogs name nowadays. All the female dogs seem to be called Luna near me.

IggOrEgg · 05/03/2024 21:16

I wouldn’t say so, at all, it’s very faddy imo. That being said, if you like it, use it! It’s certainly not an offensive name.

Kdubs1981 · 05/03/2024 21:16

No

Moreteaandchocolate · 05/03/2024 21:27

It’s pretty, but trendy rather than classic or timeless, imo.

BresciaBike · 05/03/2024 21:44

Not. At. All.

inappropriateraspberry · 05/03/2024 21:44

Makes me think of lunatic.

Navyblueblazer · 05/03/2024 21:53

@Laylea well the word itself is very old, Luna was a Roman moon goddess along with Juno and Diana, and it has been used as a girl's first name in some Mediterranean cultures. It's use as a name in English speaking countries is very recent however. I think it would definitely mark her as a baby of her generation. However, it's perfectly pretty and has ancient history and myth associated with it, so I think it's a lot nicer than many other trendy names.

Caravaggiouch · 05/03/2024 21:54

No, not remotely. It was the name the midwives said was the trendy new name when my DD was born, she’s 5.

thecatneuterer · 05/03/2024 21:55

Almost every other female cat coming to our surgery is called Luna (and the rest are called Nala). It's never occurred to me that it was also a name for humans - I'm just so used to it being a pets' name.

AmeliaSmallhope · 05/03/2024 22:02

Yes Luna is Latin, the name of the personification of the moon, but it’s not a Latin name that’s been widely used.

I’d never heard of it being used as a name for a real person until some time after the Harry Potter films so I’d say it’s more of a trendy / faddy name than a timeless classic.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 05/03/2024 22:03

Neither timeless nor classic.

Alltheyearround · 05/03/2024 22:16

I know you didn't ask but here are some lovely moon related names possibly more timeless and classic apart from Meridian and Mizuki which I just really took a shine to. I'll get my dressing gown and go to bed now.

Mizuki (Suki?)
Sylvia
Selena
Lucille
Celeste
Cordelia
Elara
Larissa
Meridian
Miranda

DS was going to be a girl called Luna but we were wrong! I went to school with one so was around before HP but did cause some interesting responses when we said about using it!

But people will always seem to grace you with their opinion on names 🙄

The OP did garner opinion on the name. It is the whole point of this thread...

Crikeyalmighty · 05/03/2024 22:32

I think it sounds like a pets name

Atethehalloweenchocs · 05/03/2024 23:08

Lots of Lunas about at the moment. But lovely.

Postboxwatcher · 05/03/2024 23:09

No, it’s a dogs name. Sorry OP.

babbi · 05/03/2024 23:12

NameChangeAgain0224 · 05/03/2024 23:14

It’s what people call their cats.

Justrolledmyeyesoutloud · 05/03/2024 23:21

For personal reasons l loathe it but also makes me think lunatic

Marcipex · 05/03/2024 23:27

Lunatic. Sorry.
It’s on a par with Lyra. A pretty name but doesn’t work well because it’s too like Liar.

Selina
Elena
Linnea

SoOutingWhoCares · 05/03/2024 23:31

Sorry, no. Here in the UK it's pretty much the opposite!

Trendy and gimmicky and will date like names like Kylie, Jade, Courtney etc.

Timeless classics imo are names like Charlotte, Alexandra, Eleanor etc.
