Don't mind the sound, but don't like the associations?

Any names where you like how the name sounds, but wouldn't use it because of associations(both personal ones and famous people/characters)?

Jezebel - so pretty, but used as a synonym for harlot. I met a woman named Jezebel in RL but didn’t really get to know her well enough to ask whether she ever got hassle for her name.

Nevaeh. Lovely sounding but 🤮

salamithumbs · 04/03/2024 18:45

Elsa - too frozen now
Ariana - too Grande
Chelsea, Brittany, Kinvara- I like how they sound but I don't like place names!
Plus I like the sound of 60s/70s/80s names like Julie, Suzanne, Debbie, Lisa, Gemma, Caroline and Alison but thought they might seem dated when I was thinking of baby names 🙄 kind of wish I'd used Caroline as I think it's a classic!

I have always liked the sound of the names Sharon and Pamela. But, I couldn't ever use them.

toastofthetown · 04/03/2024 20:34

Lambrini. It's a beautiful name which means bright, shining, brilliant.

Tristan

Any name for a girl that is just a boys name with a -ie, -a or -y on it. I don’t like a meaning to be “female version of xxx”

If I had the cajones for it I'd have loved to have named my son Kerouac.

But...

a) it's too much, too pretentious
b) no girl name I like would go with it- my taste in female names is very conventional
c) it would sound absolutely mental with my surname. Would actually sound good with my maiden name though.

Id love to use Billie if I ever (I won’t) have any more. But my DD is Piper…. So I can’t!

CallItLoneliness · 05/03/2024 05:16

Sacha and Stellan for boys. Alexa for a girl.

TheOriginalEmu · 05/03/2024 05:43

Isis. I think it’s lovely, but…

Amelia. Gorgeous sound, but means missing limbs.

In what language? Google seems to think it means "industrious".

Medical terminology.

Yuckyyuckyuckity · 05/03/2024 07:28

Aryan. It's a beautiful Indian name but... yeah. I know a few parents who have named their child it but they have no idea of the connotations.

Agree with this. It sounds lovely but I always think it looks like a retired couple's bungalow name.
I like the name Matthew but don't like how Matt makes me think of a doormat or knots on a Persian cat.

Yes, me too! I did a study on risk factors for limb defects as a med student so def all I can hear with Amelia!

Also Lucas. Lovely name but ruined for me by the Lucas device (brutal but effective CPR machine!)
