This is somewhat inspired by the resurrected prettiest girls name you know thread.

I wondered when you went to school what was the girl with the name you likes the most called?

I didnt grow up in the UK but for me her name was Karina. I thought her name was so pretty and unusual (it's a fairly normalish name for my generation in Denmark think top 50-100) but oh I had name.envy. grew out of it and Karina never even entered the consideration for my own children.😁

Elisha and Sarai (pronounced Suh-rey)

Elisha was also stunningly beautiful and so kind. She is now in Spain living her best life and i'm not envious at all 😁

Lucy.

Blossom

Alasina - usually known as Sina. Lovely Samoan name.

Unusually, Tomorrow, which sounds so pretty as a name. She was a Thai exchange student. Most of the Thai girls chose an English word to use as a name.

Xanthe.

Which is slightly ridiculous as I have a very similar name, also from Greek derivation, which I hated. The grass is always greener etc ...

Lucy.

I am a Lucy - it was such a popular name in the late 80s early 90s, think there were 4 in my year. Nowadays I only hear of labradors being called Lucy hahahahaha (and labradors are amazing of course)

Vanda. In all the years since I left school I've never come across another one. Pretty name

MrsJellybee · 14/02/2024 17:28

Astra

garlictwist · 14/02/2024 17:31

Alicia. I always envied her name.

LSTMS30555 · 14/02/2024 17:33

Sepi I absolutely loved it, I'd never heard it before and haven't since.
She was a lovely Russian girl.

HuntingoftheSnark · 14/02/2024 17:34

The most exotic was Verona. I've never met another one. The prettiest was Gillian and I still like the name because it reminds me of her.

CrushingOnRubies · 14/02/2024 17:35

Elodie

She was also very glamorous

BinkyBeaufort · 14/02/2024 17:38

The prettiest name I remember from as far back as junior school in the 60s was Delari.
(Del-ARE-ree).

Marcipex · 14/02/2024 17:40

Elaine. She had enormous brown eyes and long straight golden hair.

She died when still in her teens :(

Jook · 14/02/2024 17:41

I went to school with a girl whose name I absolutely loved but have never been able to track down, probably because I can’t figure out the spelling.

It’s Irish and sounds like Fawn-ya. This was late 70s.

AddictedToBooks · 14/02/2024 17:49

For me it was always Emma, then Emily and then it turned to Elizabeth.
One my babies was named Emily and another of my babies has the middle name Elizabeth.

There were a couple of Emma's in my school and they both seemed so beautiful and popular. Every Emily I've ever met has been so lovely and the same with the only Elizabeth I knew.

Annette and Alexia.

DejaMooo · 14/02/2024 18:00

Freya - I'm not sure I like it so much anymore, but I loved it then... she was really pretty and cool, and the only girl with that name in the whole school. Probably influenced by the fact I have a very common name and was one of four in my year.

I am a Lucy and my beloved grandmother was Jean. She died 9 months ago and I want to give my own daughter Jean as a middle name after her, so she lives on.

That's nice, it being a family name. I really like Jeanie.
